Murphy is recruiting for an Assistant Bid Manager to work with our Work Winning Proposals Team in Golborne, Wigan. A day in the life of an Assistant Bid Manager:
- Manage Own Tenders: Take day-to-day responsibility for organising and delivering smaller-to-medium infrastructure bids worth up to £50m.
- Cover Diverse Sectors: Run and support bids across both power infrastructure (substations, cables) and Natural Resources, including gas AGIs, pipeline diversions, hydrogen, and CO2 projects.
- Find New Contracts: Check procurement websites every day for new project notices, pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs), and expressions of interest in the energy and gas sectors.
- Handle Client Questions: Log and track all official questions sent to and from utility clients during the bid, making sure your team answers them on time.
- Write Basic Answers: Draft standard text for the bids, focusing on our company history, health and safety records, gas/electricity compliance standards, and environmental policies.
- Organise Bidding Files: Keep the central bid library updated with fresh project photos, gas/power case studies, staff CVs, and successful past answers.
- Keep Meetings on Track: Book progress meetings, write down action points, and chase engineering and estimating team members to make sure they finish their parts on time.
- Gather Supplier Info: Contact specialist subcontractors and equipment suppliers to collect their safety certificates, insurance details, and signed confidentiality agreements.
- Check for Mistakes: Read through final tender packs to ensure every single form, financial sheet, and appendix requested by the client is included.
- Make Documents Look Professional & Upload: Fix the final formatting of the documents so they look polished, and manage the final upload process on client online portals before the strict deadline.

- Experience of delivering successful high value bids across Rail / Transportation, Highways, Water, Power, Building, Oil and Gas and Tunnelling.
- Strong writing, editing and organisational skills.
- The ability to convey complex and technical issues in clear, plain English.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders externally and across the business.
- Knowledge of the bid lifecycle from tracking of OJEU notices to PQQ, Tender and Post Tender Interviews.
- Experience of facilitating and updating a knowledgebase system is essential along with advanced MS Word skills & proficient in MS Office.
