Murphy is recruiting for a Skills, Employment & Education Advisor to join our team at BMJV (Bouygues Murphy Joint Venture) to work on delivering the UK’s longest road tunnel beneath the River Thames, the exciting Lower Thames Crossing project. The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. LTC is a new road that will connect Kent and Essex through a tunnel beneath the River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK—creating six times more green space than road. The reliable new route will almost double road capacity over the river east of London to reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time.

We have a diverse programme team on LTC that reflects the communities we work in and fosters an inclusive culture by actively supporting the programme's Purpose, Principles and Cultural Pillars and growing employee networks.

A day in the life of a Murphy Skills, Employment & Education Advisor:

  • Education & Community Engagement: Create and deliver engaging sessions for primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across Kent and Essex, promoting the Lower Thames Crossing, the construction sector and essential employability skills. Attend school-led events—including careers fairs, mock interviews, workshops and assemblies—to represent the project and inspire young people. Organise and host site visits for local students, teachers and community groups to provide first-hand insight into the project. Host and coordinate work experience placements for local students, ensuring meaningful insight into the construction and infrastructure industry.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, colleges, training providers, employment brokerages and community organisations, demonstrating sensitivity to differing community perspectives on the project. Attend external events and represent the organisation professionally while networking with key partners and stakeholders. Work collaboratively with joint venture partners (Balfour Beatty, Skanska) to ensure consistent and aligned delivery across the programme.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, brief and support project volunteers to participate in education and skills events.
  • Internal Collaboration: Act as a key and active member of the wider People & Culture Team, contributing to shared goals and supporting the delivery of the project’s social value commitments.
