Murphy is recruiting for a Plant Supervisor to work with Murphy Plant on Lower Thames crossing. Murphy Plant is committed to delivering a plant hire service that is simple, safe, efficient and reliable. We manage and maintain more than £100 million worth of innovative, best in-class plant, transport and specialist equipment and our work spans multiple sectors. Our inventory includes over 15,000 assets, ranging from small tools to piling rigs, alongside our award‑winning vehicle fleet which includes one of the UK’s most comprehensive collections of crawler cranes. Our broad range of equipment also includes specialist assets for ground engineering, pipeline testing, tunnelling, rail and more.

Manage, plan, maintenance & repairs of plant and equipment to manufacturers specifications while adhering to safe practices, procedures, environmental requirements.

A day in the life of a Murphy Plant Supervisor:

  • Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHESQ department.
  • Maintain standards of safety and comply with Company’s Health, Safety & Environment Management System requirements.
  • Develop all staff to work in a safe and legal environment.
  • Work closely with the SHESQ Manager (Business) and SHESQ Advisor (Region).
  • Ensure reporting of Health & Safety incidents in line with Group expectation (2-1-2).
  • Participate in regular SHESQ inspections with SHESQ Advisor.
  • Follow and maintain Company standards of Quality in accordance with Company Quality System requirements.
  • Promote and encourage a positive attitude to Health & Safety.
  • Ensure good working relationships are maintained between the depot, Office and sites.
  • Maintain effective reporting lines to management: update the maintenance Manager on key activities.
  • Attend and contribute to regular Plant and Transport Meetings.
  • Ensure that you and all members of your team are qualified to drive and operate plant equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure all garage and service equipment is maintained and legally compliant and work spaces are kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Ensure that you and all members of your team attend Safety Meetings and Toolbox talks to increase safety awareness.
  • Ensure that checklists for all items of plant are completed by relevant fitters.
  • Ensure all tasks are recorded via job cards, service sheets & service records are kept up to date.
  • Supervise the repair and maintenance of plant & equipment in accordance with the plant & transport maintenance processes & procedures.
  • Periodically check work processes to make sure that high standards are maintained.
  • Regularly review established processes to look for improvements in quality, efficiency, innovation and safety.
  • Refer any suggestions for improvements to the maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain standards of dress, PPE and quality of self and workers to promote a professional organization.
  • Identify training requirements where applicable and communicate these to the Safety Advisor and/or Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensure that authorised personnel only are permitted in restricted areas.
  • Ensure quality control is enforced by inspection of completed work by authorised personnel performance.

  • Excellent troubleshooting ability, technical knowledge of Plant and Equipment.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of transport regulations & maintenance processes & procedures.
  • Literate and Numerate with proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other office applications.
  • Be able to handle emergencies and adjust team priorities and work schedules as needed.
  • Good level of IT knowledge.
