Join to apply for the Senior Engineering Manager role at Murphy. Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Engineering Manager to work with Energy on the Norwich to Tilbury scheme, as part of our delivery of the Great Grid partnership (GGP).

We offer design, construction and commissioning services and deliver Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) projects for both regulated and private customers, alongside technical and engineering solutions in conventional power and energy transition markets.
Overall responsibility for the engineering function (engineering, design management, quality assurance and control, document control) both on and off site for the business unit, including day-to-day management of all engineering activities. Responsible for implementing the Better Engineered strategic driver as part of the 10-year plan. Represent the function both internally and externally.
Responsibilities
- Implement and promote the Better Engineered strategic objective within the business unit.
- Lead engagement with internal and external designers along with specialist supply chain partners.
- Form project delivery strategies with regards to design engineering.
- Ensure the implementation of Group Design Management Policy and Procedural requirements.
- Lead the identification of technical risks and ensure implementation of mitigations on all projects.
- Ensure key external project asset stakeholders\β technical governance and assurance processes are adhered to and implemented.
- Drive Value Engineering and Innovation that adds value in time, cost, safety, or carbon, including driving design standardisation.
- Influence and review design solutions within area of expertise.
- Accountable for ensuring Operational, SHES and Quality input into design development to address temporary works and methodologies.
- Promote and lead engineering innovation and GIS/BIM and Digital Field tool solutions for project delivery and handover.
- Manage and pursue performance improvement of the engineering capability and function and help establish best practice policies and procedures.
- Lead careers development and learning, including personal development reviews for engineering staff.
- Support work winning as the technical leader in bids with application of engineering, design management and quality.
- Support commercial and procurement teams in accurate scope definition and in contractual matters with suppliers and the client.
- Manage recruitment of engineers and design managers to meet business requirements.
- Maintain high-quality standards and promote health, safety and environmental best practices in conjunction with the SHESQ department.
Qualifications and experience
- Relevant leadership experience in the engineering function of a major UK contractor, in rail, highways, utilities, tunnelling, or other heavy civil engineering.
- Strong technical capability and leadership skills with knowledge of BIM.
- Leadership with emotional intelligence to continually improve and help others develop.
- Ability to prioritise objectives, meet deadlines, influence others, and demonstrate integrity to earn trust and respect.
- Experience of technical leadership on major infrastructure projects and programmes.
- Knowledge of project management processes gained through contract management experience.
- Understanding of professional development processes for civil engineers.
