Murphy is recruiting for a Principal Pipeline Engineer to work with Murphy Applied Engineering within Renewables.

They design both permanent and temporary works for projects in all our locations and are a trusted source of expert advice for both Murphy colleagues and external customers.
A day in the life of a Murphy Principal Pipeline Engineer
- Responsible for the day to day management and development of a team of engineers
- Responsible for the delivery of all technical drawings and reports for the detailed design phase of linear infrastructure projects (steel transmission pipelines & plastic ducts for HV cables)
- Responsible for delivery of constructability reports associated with linear infrastructure projects
- Responsible for delivery Pre-FEED and FEED studies associated with major pipeline/HV power cable infrastructure projects in the UK,
- Technical support to planners and estimators during FEED studies
- Lead design risk assessments
- Checking and approving of technical design reports
- Project reporting and coordination of design activities within the engineering team
- Represent the design department, when necessary, at internal and external meetings
- Undertake site visits when required,
- Accurate recording of time spent on projects and management of team workloads,
- Coach and mentor individual staff members with professional development,
- Support the bid teams with technical input into tender submissions & develop design estimates for inclusion in the overall submission
- Technical input into Trenchless Crossing Designs (HDD’s, Microtunnels & Auger Bores)

- Degree qualified in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- Chartered with a professional institution regulated by the Engineering Council (or working towards Chartership)
- Familiar with National Gas standards for transmission pipelines as well as other UK, EU and International standards (E.g. PD8010, BSEN 14161, BS EN 1594 etc)
- Familiar with UK and international standards for plastic pipes
- Construction & design experience associated with linear infrastructure projects & trenchless crossing designs
- Experience undertaking Pre-FEED, FEED & detailed design associated with major linear infrastructure projects in the UK as part of the governments net zero targets for 2050.
- Experience of consent requirements associated with rail (NWR Form A, B & C), road (CD622) and watercourse crossings (EA) is preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of construction plant & equipment used to install steel pipelines and plastic cable ducts,
- Familiar with geospatial analysis software such as ArcGIS or QGIS
- Excellent technical report writing skills
- Some awareness and understanding of environmental restrictions in the UK
