Murphy is hiring for a

Senior Project Manager to lead the development and delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects for key clients in the South of England, primarily Thames Water and South East Water, with potential involvement across other regions including Severn Trent Water.

This pivotal role involves managing multiple projects through all phases—from identification and design to procurement, construction, and commissioning.

The successful candidate will ensure effective oversight of all key project elements, including health and safety, scope, estimating, commercial and financial management, risk, quality, and resource planning.

The role reports directly to the UK Regional Manager.

  • Engage with key water company clients to understand needs, identify opportunities, and support tendering teams in developing compliant water/wastewater treatment solutions.
  • Oversee daily management of a portfolio of projects including identification of needs, design development, process, civil, structural, pipeline, MEICA, commissioning, and handover.
  • Manage project delivery across programme, budget, construction, HSE performance, and progress for all assigned projects.
  • Lead and support staff at all levels, promoting development and retention of key personnel.
  • Maintain professional relationships with senior client representatives.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial awareness.
  • Collaborate with Murphy teams to define design requirements and deliver technical solutions through a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Ensure all projects comply with current Health & Safety, CDM, and Environmental regulations.
  • Review subcontractor RAMS, process designs, engineering drawings, and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure projects meet client technical standards through coordination with internal and external design teams.
  • Provide technical input for tenders and support work-winning efforts.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project programmes using MS Project and Primavera P6 to meet key milestones Ensure adherence to company safety, environmental, and quality systems.
  • Produce project performance reports and participate in monthly reviews with senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with company commercial and financial procedures.
  • Finalise contract documentation with the Commercial Team.
  • Manage price variations and final accounts.
  • 10+ years relevant post-graduate experience in a Client facing capacity within the water/wastewater process/MEICA sector
  • A working knowledge of large-scale Municipal Wastewater Treatment including Process and MEICA design and operations / maintenance.
  • Ability to demonstrate a detailed understanding of design processes including HAZOP, HAZCON and all aspects of health and safety in project delivery
  • Proven experience in delivery of significant water/wastewater projects and programmes including working closely with supply chain in delivering projects (with emphasis on adherence to deliverables, milestones, specification, H&S, outputs, and quality).
  • A strong working knowledge of implementing CDM regulations in delivery of projects.
  • Self-motivated, energetic and the capacity to identify critical needs and concerns in project delivery to ensure the project is delivered on time and budget.
