Murphy is recruiting for a SHES Manager (Assurance) to work across the group, can be based at either Cannock, Ollerton or London. Operating in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and the USA, Murphy provides better engineered solutions to infrastructure sectors including transportation, water, power and natural resources. So that our teams out on projects can run smoothly it is vital that we have robust support functions in place.

Lead the development, delivery and continuous improvement of Murphy's assurance programme, ensuring robust, consistent and value-adding audits that support compliance, manage risk and drive improvement across the business.

A day in the life of a Murphy SHES Manager (Assurance):

  • Lead the development, coordination and continual improvement of the Murphy Group Management Audit Programme.
  • Develop, agree and maintain audit and SPAR schedules, ensuring alignment with business priorities and risks.
  • Lead the planning, facilitation and delivery of internal audits, SPARs and assurance reviews.
  • Oversee audit preparation activities including agenda setting, stakeholder engagement and readiness reviews.
  • Ensure audit findings are robust, evidence-based and consistently graded.
  • Review and assure the quality of audit reports across the business, ensuring consistency in standards and approach.
  • Support the development and continual improvement of audit checklists, templates and assurance tools.
  • Oversee the management of audit actions, ensuring they are captured, tracked and closed out within agreed timeframes.
  • Monitor action trends, recurring issues and systemic risks.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership, highlighting key risks, trends and performance.
  • Lead the planning and coordination of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification and surveillance audits.
  • Act as the primary interface with external auditors, coordinating schedules, site visits and logistics.
  • Engage with internal auditors and stakeholders to ensure understanding of audit standards, expectations and methodologies.
  • Facilitate introductory sessions, briefings and audit close-out discussions with site and project teams.
  • Support Joint Ventures and international operations with assurance, audits and certification requirements, where required.
  • Support the development of internal auditor capability, including guidance on audit delivery and root cause analysis.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement in assurance processes, tools and outputs.
  • Support the development and rollout of digital assurance tools and systems.
  • Provide direction and oversight to audit resources and support roles involved in assurance activities.
  • Support the Head of SHES (Systems and Assurance) with broader systems, assurance and improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor compliance with audit schedules across Business Units, ensuring audits are completed in line with agreed programmes.
  • Track and report on assurance performance, including completion rates, trends and key risks.
  • Assist with accident/incident investigations in accordance with the Company procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of project SHES documents including those of 3rd parties. Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements.

  • Internal auditor training or Lead auditor training for all/either of the following standards: ISO 9001, 14001 and/or 45001.
  • Solid understanding of the requirements of the ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 standards.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate.
  • Experience in a Construction Auditing / Assurance role (preferable managerial position).
  • In depth SharePoint user & build knowledge.
  • Strong data skills: validation, cleansing, dashboard/report building (Excel/Power BI).
  • Confident communicator and trainer—able to support site teams and office users.
  • In depth Microsoft package knowledge (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project).
