Position Summary

The main function of the job is to manage the process design & implementation of between 3-4 new development projects at any given time and deliver all projects within a 12-month cycle. Develop production process & process controls for a variety of projects across several production sites, including the UK, China & Japan. Provide technical support, occasioning first line support for MK Production department, including but not limited to; SMA, Hybrid assembly, Production Test, Dicing Line, Diced product Automatic Line, FHP Moulding Line, Encapsulation & Laser marking. Provide support to our Celab site, when required. Complete product transfers to Murata’s main manufacturing site in China. Collaborate with process Engineering teams from our parent company in Japan, to develop automated processes. Monitor & optimise the technical performance of the assembly equipment at both UK & China sites. Organise and manage the effective delivery of tailored training plans for trainee technicians and production staff.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Deliver all process design & implementation of designated/assigned product projects within a challenging 12-month cycle.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing technicians in the department.
  • Ensure minimal downtime & maximum output for all MK Production department processes, including Assembly, SMA, Test, Dicing Line, Diced product Automatic Line, FHP Moulding Line, Encapsulation & Laser marking.
  • Complete mechanical product design concepts & development for a variety of projects.
  • Support prototype, pilot build & mass manufacturing process development across UK & China sites.
  • Complete production fixture design, build & qualification.
  • General project management, including project leading, with regular project updates to Engineering Management team.
  • Create process & product costings with labour times for various projects/products.
  • Design, co-ordinate and qualify internal & external product packaging.
  • Use/understand internal Systems/Software such as Aras, Avante, MES, Cut 2D CNC, Rhino/Fusion 360 3D design, Draftsight, CAD.
  • Create detailed Bill of materials for projects & products with detailed QPA’s.
  • Create detailed process documentation for new & legacy products.
  • Create comprehensive batch yield & failure analysis reports for both UK & China sites.
  • Complete detailed product transfer packs for Murata’s manufacturing site in China.
  • Co-ordinate, organise & complete new product transfers to Murata’s manufacturing site in China.
  • Work closely with and support the Production Department, Test Development, Development engineering, Drawing Office & Quality.
  • Process support of legacy products manufactured in China.
  • Research, investigate & report on new process & automation options for both UK & China sites.
  • Implement automation/new equipment/processes to Murata’s China site.
  • Provide ongoing technical support, servicing & training for any implemented equipment at the China facility from the UK.
  • Complete supplier visits, audits and evaluations of various companies.
  • Organise, implement and maintain 5S throughout production at the UK site.
  • Follow & work in line with IATF 16949 Automotive standards.
  • Assist the Production Engineering Manager to identify and carry out the training requirements of staff.
  • Ensure any Specific Objectives and/or any Special Projects assigned by the Production Engineering Manager are completed on time.
  • Learn, maintain & support various MK/China based automation machinery & equipment.

  • Mechanical Engineering experience

  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 and ISO14001 Standards
  • Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Experience of creating and monitoring processes and procedures
  • 3 plus years’ experience working in Manufacturing/Production Engineering environment

Work Environment

Willing to travel overseas when required.

Compensation Data

Dependent on experience.
