MacRail are a provider of rail infrastructure services, supporting the construction, maintenance, and safe operation of railway networks across the UK. The company delivers skilled labour, safety-critical staff, and infrastructure support services to major contractors and Network Rail projects, helping ensure efficient and compliant rail operations.

We are now seeking a Head of Sales to come on board to lead our commercial growth, strengthen client relationships, and expand MacRail’s services into new markets.

Role specification

Responsible for leading MacRail’s sales and commercial strategy, driving revenue growth, and expanding the company into new markets and sectors. The role oversees all commercial activity, ensuring a strong pipeline, effective account management, and the conversion of opportunities into long-term partnerships while working closely with senior leadership to deliver strategic growth.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and deliver MacRail’s sales strategy aligned with business growth objectives; Drive expansion into new sectors and markets, supporting long-term planning and revenue targets; Lead the commercial team to ensure strong pipeline generation, revenue growth, and a high-performance sales culture.
  • Business Development & Market Expansion: Identify new market opportunities and develop strategies to enter them successfully; Build strategic partnerships and manage key client relationships across rail and infrastructure sectors; Oversee the development of new service offerings and represent MacRail at industry events.
  • Sales & Commercial Performance: Own overall sales performance, set targets, monitor KPIs, and manage forecasting and reporting; Ensure consistent lead generation, opportunity conversion, and accurate sales pipeline management.
  • Commercial Governance: Oversee pricing, quotation processes, contracts, and risk mitigation; Ensure proper management of customer documentation and effective CRM use.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the commercial team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement; Support recruitment, training, and development to drive business growth.
  • Client Relationships & Brand Development: Maintain strong relationships with key clients and partners, maximising value and retention; Identify upselling opportunities and contribute to MacRail’s brand reputation through networking, thought leadership, and marketing support.

  • Proven experience leading sales or commercial teams
  • Strong track record of driving revenue growth and winning new business
  • Experience developing and delivering sales strategies
  • Experience expanding services into new markets or sectors
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen including budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience managing contracts and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders
  • Excellent leadership and team development skills
