Overview

In this role, you assess and bind International Casualty risks to support growth within the Munich Re Syndicate Ltd portfolio. You’ll collaborate with Lloyd’s brokers and internal partners to secure quality business while upholding regulatory and underwriting standards. The role balances risk assessment with day-to-day supervision of underwriting activity and contract administration. You’ll contribute to responsible conduct and risk mitigation across the business in a global markets context.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite International Casualty risks in open market and delegated areas within authority limits
  • Develop relationships within Lloyd’s to secure new business for the Syndicate Ltd portfolio
  • Provide analytical support (S2000 risk entry reports; Adhoc reporting)
  • Supervise underwriting assistants and monitor income flows
  • Review slips and information, exercise judgment within authority
  • Document conversations with customers per procedures
  • Ensure adherence to procedures and compliance manuals
  • Review and amend contracts per underwriting philosophy; monitor risk entries
  • Engage with Peer Review Group and respond to queries for the International Casualty Account
  • Draft and complete underwriting notes
  • Identify and report significant risk changes and effectiveness of controls
  • Support conduct improvement to deliver best outcomes for customers
  • Understand escalation routes and governance (PCRSG, UCSC, ExCo, Board)

Key requirements

  • University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification
  • Sound knowledge of underwriting principles, legal principles, PRA and Lloyd’s rules and contract certainty issues
  • Knowledge of International Casualty lines (Energy, Marine Property, Excess of Loss, War and political risks, PI, Recall, EIL)
  • Advanced Excel, Word, and other day-to-day software skills
  • Ability to supervise and manage information flow; strong judgement within authority
  • Familiarity with contracts, risk entry processes, and documentation standards
  • Relationship building with brokers and colleagues
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn in a global market
