We are looking for a Data Governance & Data Quality Manager to join our London team on a 6 month fixed term contract with hybrid working. As the Data Governance & Data Quality Manager, you will play a crucial leadership role in overseeing and enhancing the data governance and quality framework within our speciality insurance operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain data governance and data quality policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of our data assets. This role requires a combination of strategic thinking, technical expertise, and strong leadership to drive continuous improvement in data governance and data quality practices.
As a senior member of the Data Governance Team within the Data Office, you will be responsible to the Head of Data Governance and lead specific projects with the overall objective of developing and implementing applicable data governance and data quality strategies and frameworks to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of data across MRSG and in alignment with the Munich Re Group. You will lead the design and implementation of the data quality strategy for MRSG collaborating with various stakeholders to establish policies, standards, and procedures, and oversee implementation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and business rules. This role requires a high level of data quality expertise and a deep understanding of data management practices, industry regulations, and emerging trends in data governance.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of specific projects to build the foundational policies, processes and BAU operational practices that make up the Data Governance Framework.
- Provide specialist input to the design, implementation and maintenance of the Data Governance Framework, aligned with industry best practice and regulatory requirements.
- Input to and oversight compliance with the Data Governance related policies, standard and processes to embed consistent management of data across the organisation.
- Provide specialist input and work collaboratively with the business and technology to enhance Data Governance tool and technologies.
- Lead the business partnership arrangements, act as primary point of contact for expert advice and guidance driving business understanding of their data, data use, sharing and management in line with policy and aligned to achievement of business objectives.
- Establish, oversight and maintain the data accountability structure via the Data Owners, Stewards and other data related roles.
- Design, lead and implement education and the embedding of a data literate, data driven culture through development of role-relevant and accessible training and awareness programmes.
- Act as the liaison point between technical and non-technical stakeholders enabling a better understanding of data practices.
- Design and implement the strategic Data Quality Framework, leading the programme of activity to ensure Data Quality issues are proactively identified, assessed, remediated and reporting on, recommending effective approaches to building trustworthy data-sets that provide the business with insight and allow them to make confident data-driven decisions.
- Establish the central point of excellence, providing support and guidance to the business.
- Conduct regular stakeholder engagement/update meetings to build a network and community of data quality SME’s.
- Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a data audit to identify and agree which data sets will be monitored for data quality, aligned to the operation of business critical processes and the achievement of the business strategic objectives.
- Definition, agreement and implementation of a set of standardised data quality measures to enable consistent reporting.
- Establishment of a data quality reporting framework that provides insight and recommendations to drive ongoing improvements in data quality policies, practices and operational processes.
- Design and implementation of a data quality issue identification, assessment, reporting and remediation process that operates at central and Business Unit levels of aggregation.
- Development of a Data Quality Risk oversight and monitoring framework to identify key areas of exposure and enable conscious risk-based decisions to be made regarding remediation priorities and investment.
- Additionally to identify and remediate root causes of data quality issues.
- Responsible for the alignment of the Data Quality Strategy and operating arrangements with other established frameworks (e.g. Operational Resilience, Consumer Duty, IT Strategies).
- Additionally responsible for engagement, SME input and collaboration with GSI4-wide data-related change initiatives to identify and mitigate any data quality risks, issues and dependencies.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proven experience in data governance, data management, or a related field, preferably in the insurance industry.
- Experience in a management role is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in a senior data quality role, preferable in financial services.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, data management practices, and regulatory requirements in the insurance industry, such as GDPR, Solvency II, and IFRA 17.
- Familiarity with data governance and data quality frameworks and standards, such as DAMA-DMBOK and ISO 8000.
- Knowledge of data privacy and data protection laws and regulations, and experience implementing data privacy policies and procedures.
- Strong people management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team of data governance and data quality professionals and stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data-related issues, assess risks, and propose effective solutions.
- Proficiency in data governance tools and technologies, including data quality tools, metadata management systems, and data access controls.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to maintaining data accuracy, integrity, and security.
