The Green Solutions Underwriter will underwrite for the Renewable Energy Account within the underwriting limits as set out in the underwriting authority sheet and ensure timely account servicing to Brokers and Clients with a primary focus on onshore Solar, Wind, and BESS.
Provide 1st level monitoring and oversight for the administrative process aspects of the account, demonstrating care for customers and respect for regulatory obligations and the reputation of the Syndicate.
Responsibilities- Assess, price, negotiate, and underwrite for the Renewable Energy Account.
- Exercise judgement in all underwriting and remain aware of own underwriting limits as set out in the Underwriting Authority sheet, in accordance with the Syndicate Business Plan.
- Conduct and develop effective business relationships with brokers and clients to secure new business and retain appropriate renewal business.
- Ensure that company procedures and systems are followed and maintained, as per procedure and compliance manuals.
- Refer or liaise (when appropriate) to the CUO and relevant internal departments.
- Assist in the monitoring and development of underwriting tools and procedures.
- Provide support to junior team members and monitor their quality of work.
- Oversee administrative functions of the Renewable Energy Account, including S2000/EDOC data entry, credit control, CAT monitoring, and benchmark rating adequacy processes.
- Monitor exception reports and take relevant actions, escalating to seniors and rectifying with underwriters or UAs as needed.
- Identify potential risks within the role and the controls in place, reporting significant changes or control effectiveness to the line manager.
- Understand the lines of escalation and responsibilities of the PCRSG, UCSC, ExCo, and Board for Conduct Risk.
- Ensure the Renewable Energy Account conforms with the principles of contract certainty.
- Degree in engineering preferred but not mandatory.
- Sound technical understanding of current and future renewable energy technologies.
- At least 5 years of work experience in a relevant renewable energy industry and/or insurance role.
- Intermediate knowledge and understanding of Underwriting Principles; Legal Principles; FCA and Lloyd’s rules and regulations including contract certainty issues; and all company-specific procedures that relate to the role.
- Demonstrate clear understanding of colleagues’ roles and how they relate to the firm's structure and business plans; maintain market and risk awareness and continuously develop knowledge of products, underwriting, and related issues through formal and informal learning.
