What You’ll Be Doing

As a Data Engineer, you will play an important role in strengthening and modernising our data estate within MD Insurance Services. You will contribute to improving our existing SQL Server environment, support the development of a new Azure data platform, and help embed structured, well-governed development practices using Azure DevOps. In your day to day you will:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver scalable, high-quality data pipelines and models across SQL Server and Azure platforms.
  • Develop simple, modular, reusable data components following best practices to enhance maintainability, performance, and governance.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of data solutions, including deployment, monitoring, and proactive resolution of issues within Azure DevOps environments.
  • Drive continuous improvement through transparent communication, code reviews, constructive feedback, and adoption of modern data engineering practices.

What You’ll Need

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with SQL Server and strong T-SQL development skills
  • Ability to design and build modular and reusable data components
  • Understanding of data modelling, schema design and performance optimisation
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and data pipeline development
  • Experience using Git and version control practices
  • Exposure to Azure data tools such as Azure SQL, Data Factory or Synapse
  • Understanding of structured development practices and SDLC principles
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues

Experience

  • Experience supporting or improving SQL Server environments
  • Exposure to cloud-based data platforms (ideally Azure)
  • Experience working in structured development or delivery environments
  • Involvement in system improvements or modernisation initiatives
