We are looking to employ a BI Developer to be based in London or Manchester on a full time basis. We offer hybrid working with 2-3 days per week in the office. You will support the Head of Data Analytics and Insights in providing the capability and capacity to leverage insight and analytics to address specific challenges within the business from ideation to delivery.
Responsibilities
- Designing, developing and maintaining BI solutions (Dashboards, reports and data models – semantic, using tools such as PowerBI, SQL).
- Support the Head of Data Analytics and Insight with identifying and documenting the end to end data architecture incl. systems and relevant processes across MRSG.
- Identifying gaps/areas for improvement across the data eco‑system and outline appropriate solutions.
- Be the figurehead for data support throughout MRSG ensuring that the team as well as decentralised analysts have the support needed to do their job.
- Build and maintain automated, fault‑tolerant, scalable data solutions that are continuously delivered into our production environment.
- Be technically curious, tackling problems without giving up, and producing solutions that more junior analysts can use, maintain, and learn from.
- Gather, understand and document detailed business requirements for data using appropriate tools and techniques, and ensure these are agreed at all levels throughout the business.
- Provide source to target mappings and document data lineage to support partnering IT Engineering team to deliver data platform builds.
- Monitor, validate and reconcile the data collected on an ongoing basis, establishing internal confidence in the accuracy of the data available.
- Continuously scout the market for potential improvements to processes and technology; be fearless in testing new ideas and accepting that some will fail.
- Build insightful analytics using our modern data platform to support various functions within the business, including Pricing, Product, Finance, Claims and Compliance.
- Using our analytical tooling, build comprehensive automated reporting providing visibility on performance for internal and external stakeholders.
- Translate data from reporting and analysis into actionable insight for portfolio management teams, supporting the continuous improvement of performance.
- Tap into the wider Munich Re Group Data Analytics and Data Hunting communities across the globe as well as relevant teams with MRSG and IT SSO.
- Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
Knowledge And Skills
- Excellent verbal, written and visual communication of technical concepts.
- Proven experience working with data in an agile and dynamic team, with experience working with relational databases and writing SQL and/or python or similar.
- Power BI (semantic data modelling and DAX skills).
- Advanced SQL (joins, modelling, optimisation).
- Databricks experience (SQL & PySpark in notebooks).
- Power BI expertise (DAX, semantic modelling).
- Understanding of cloud data ecosystems (Azure preferred).
- Clear communication of BI outputs, trends, and data insights.
- Data analysis, management, and visualisation expertise.
- Proactively manages conflicts within their workstack, clearly communicating any delays and managing expectations effectively.
- Stakeholder management ability with experience in maintaining tact in high-pressure situations.
- Understands the concepts and principles of data modelling and can produce, maintain, and update relevant data models for specific business needs.
- Insurance sector experience, ideally with/working towards CII certification.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience documenting technical data requirements and designing data tests.
- Experience working in insurance.
- Cloud technologies (Cloud Service Providers eg Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform).
- Python or similar.
- Experience in DataLake technologies (DataBricks, Azure Synapse) and/or Dataiku.
