This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic fundraising professional to join the board of MumsAid, an award-winning maternal mental health charity, and support the next phase of our organisation's growth.
This role will be crucial in helping MumsAid to grow as an organisation and to extend our impact, ensuring that we can reach more families who are in need of support and raise awareness and understanding of perinatal mental health.
As a member of our board, you will inform and shape our strategic direction, and your specific knowledge and skills will enable us to further develop our fundraising operations and to develop a broader strategic approach to this area of our work.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a trustee who has experience of working at a strategic level in fundraising roles within the charity and non‑profit sector. You will have a proactive and flexible approach and a willingness to engage with the opportunities and challenges associated with working with a small but agile charity. You should have a passion for improving parental mental health and supporting families, particularly those from marginalised communities. Applications from candidates with lived experience of parenting and perinatal mental health challenges would be welcomed, but this is not an essential requirement. You do not need to have previous trustee experience, as long as you have an understanding of the responsibilities involved in being a charity trustee, and MumsAid will offer induction and onboarding support.
What will you be doing?
MumsAid is looking for a trustee who can bring fundraising expertise to our board. Over the last 14 years we have developed a range of services that provide specialist perinatal mental health support to mothers, birthing parents and families in the London Borough of Greenwich and beyond (through our online support). We offer counselling, therapeutic groups, advocacy, outreach and peer support to help families navigate the emotional challenges of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.
As a small but growing organisation, we are committed to ensuring that no one faces perinatal mental health difficulties alone. Our work has focused mainly on our local area of Greenwich (S‑E London) but we are extending our reach and impact, and building our fundraising capacity is a key part of this. We have a strong track record with fundraising, particularly from trusts, foundations and contracts from local commissioners, but we are also increasing our efforts in other areas of fundraising, including community and events fundraising and corporate partnerships, and experience in these areas would be very welcome.
As things stand, we have a committed board of eight trustees, some of whom have lived experience, and who come from varied professional backgrounds, including marketing, charity management, accountancy, corporate finance, law and psychotherapy. However we have a space opening on the board for a new trustee with fundraising expertise who can support MumsAid as we diversify our fundraising efforts and provide mentoring and guidance to our Fundraising Manager and Community Fundraiser.
In addition to quarterly board meetings, the new trustee would be expected to participate in the board's fundraising and marcomms sub‑group, which also meets on a quarterly cycle ahead of board meetings (and more regularly when needed), and to be able to provide input and support in between meetings.
