Your Impact
Reporting directly to the General Counsel (GC), you will serve as the GC's strategic partner and rightâhand, holding the title of Legal Director. This pivotal role requires a versatile legal leader who can shift between strategic thinking and tactical execution â from commercial contracts to M&A to IP strategy â while building a highâperforming legal team.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy (GC's Strategic Partner)
- Act as the GC's strategic partner and dayâtoâday manager of the legal function, representing the legal perspective in key business discussions.
- Assist the GC in developing and implementing the company's legal strategy, riskâmanagement framework, and governance policies.
- Drive continuous improvement and scalability of the legal function, achieving measurable efficiency gains.
- Corporate & Commercial Legal Expertise
- Commercial focus: supervise enterpriseâlevel contracts (MSAs, strategic partnership agreements) with major global employers.
- Corporate focus: lead M&A due diligence, transaction management, postâmerger integration, fundraising, board management, international subsidiary oversight, equity administration, and corporate structuring.
- Data, AI & IP: advise on GDPR, UK DPA 2018, information security, AI governance, and manage the IP portfolio (trademarks, patents, proprietary technology).
- International expansion: execute legal workstreams across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring regulatory compliance and managing external counsel networks.
- Team Management & Legal Operations
- Manage, mentor, and develop a highâperforming inâhouse legal team, fostering mission alignment and professional development.
- Close seniority gaps by building midâlevel capability and succession planning.
- Design and implement scalable legal processes, templates, playbooks, and training programs.
- Legal Technology & Innovation
- Champion adoption of AI tools to increase efficiency, reduce timeâtoâclose, and free up legal time for strategic work.
- Stay current on emerging legal technology and best practices to optimise the legal function.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 8â10 years PQE with progressive responsibility in a highâgrowth environment.
- Mandatory inâhouse legal experience within technology (SaaS, FinTech, Cloud, AI, or EdTech).
- Proven teamâleadership experience (performance reviews, mentoring, hiring).
- Deep expertise in both Corporate Law (M&A, financing, governance) and Commercial Law (complex contract negotiation).
- Experience supporting international expansion and coordinating crossâborder legal workstreams.
- Autonomous, selfâmanaged, and comfortable with rapid contextâswitching.
- Track record of building scalable legal infrastructure (playbooks, templates, selfâserve tools).
- Enthusiasm and experience leveraging legal technology, AI, or automation.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
This role is ideal if you:
- Value impact and influence over climbing a traditional hierarchy.
- Prefer a generalist powerhouse rather than narrow specialisation.
- Enjoy variety and problemâsolving across the full legal spectrum.
- Are energised by building and optimising systems, teams, and processes.
- Want to shape outcomes at a scaleâup inflection point.
This role may not be right if youâre primarily seeking:
- A clear path to General Counsel within 2â3 years.
- Deep specialisation in a single practice area.
- A large, established legal team structure.
Benefits
- Opportunity to be the GC's strategic partner in a purposeâdriven technology company.
- Exceptional breadth and autonomy.
- Direct partnership with the GC, influencing team strategy.
- Chance to build the legal function's future infrastructure and culture.
- Competitive salary, equity package, and benefits commensurate with a Legal Director role.
- Collaborative, entrepreneurial, and inclusive culture focused on AIâera workforce empowerment.
