About the Role
Multitask Personnel are partnering with a specialist metering company to recruit a Meter Reader / Field & Communications Engineer across Fife and West Lothian. Enjoy being out on the road, meeting people and working independently? If you’ve got a keen eye for detail and like a role where no two days are the same, this could be right up your street. This is a field-based role supporting utility operations, combining meter reading with basic field engineering duties across commercial properties. You’ll visit customer sites to collect accurate meter readings, carry out modem exchanges and support meter communication activities. Full training will be provided, including a fully funded one-day induction.

Key Responsibilities
Meter Reading- Collect accurate readings from utility meters at domestic and commercial properties
- Record data in real time using a handheld device
- Follow planned routes efficiently to meet daily targets
- Access meters in restricted or hard-to-reach locations
- Ensure all data is recorded and handled securely
- Exchange modems on electricity meters and ensure correct configuration
- Carry out half-hourly (HH) and non-HH data downloads where required
- Perform basic diagnostics and fault finding on-site
- Support meter inspections and equipment checks
- Report any faults or issues identified during visits
- Adhere to all safety and compliance standards
- Arrange appointments where required
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers
- Represent the business positively at all times
Skills & Experience
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Good level of physical fitness (role involves regular walking)
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach
- Full UK driving licence (maximum 6 points)
- Ability to provide five years’ verifiable history and pass a clean criminal record check
- Previous experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training is provided
