Our partner, an Electrical Engineering Contractor with over 25 years of industry expertise, is seeking a Controls Engineer with a strong background in panel building, wiring, and assembly, alongside PLC programming and electrical design. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on panel work while contributing to automation and control system development.

As a Controls Engineer, your duties will involve building, wiring, and testing electrical control panels and troubleshooting panel faults. You will modify or create PLC programs, design schematics in AutoCAD, and perform on-site commissioning.

Working closely with electricians and engineers, you will ensure seamless installation and operation of automation systems. Regular interaction with clients and site teams will be required to meet project specifications and deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Panel Building & Electrical Assembly (60%)
  • Assemble, wire, and test electrical control panels and motor control centres (MCCs).
  • Work with SIL safety circuits, interlocks, and control system components.
  • Perform fault-finding and rectification on electrical panels.
  • Ensure compliance with BS7671 (18th Edition) and other safety standards.
  • Programming & Design (40%)
    • Modify or create PLC programs to meet project requirements.
    • Set up HMI and SCADA systems, including Red Lion and Siemens interfaces.
    • Configure VSDs, Siemens Simocode devices, and Inter-PLC communications.
    • Develop AutoCAD schematics and panel layouts.
    • Perform site commissioning, from I/O checks to Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).

    Required Qualifications & Experience:

    • Proven panel-building experience is essential.
    • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.
    • C&G 2382-18 (BS7671 18th Edition) certification.
    • 2391 Electrical Inspection & Testing qualification (preferred).
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Eplan, or Trimble for electrical schematics.
    • Hands-on electrical engineering experience (JIB-approved or technical grade preferred).
    • Knowledge of Allen Bradley RS Logix 500/Studio 5000, Mitsubishi GXWorks, Omron CX, and Crimson 3 for Red Lion HMIs.
