Responsibilities:
- Reporting into the Head of Legal, the Legal Counsel will provide legal and strategic advice on construction projects in the UK.
- Assist in the tender review, negotiation and drafting of construction documents (including building contracts, subcontracts, consultant appointments, bonds and guarantees).
- Providing commercial and focused solutions to legal issues.
- Providing high quality legal service without recourse to external lawyers where appropriate.
- Developing and providing training for non‑legal personnel in the construction business.
- Advising on and managing legal disputes on construction projects.
Qualifications:
- Proven post‑qualification experience within a similar sized organisation, either in‑house for a main contractor or a private‑practice law firm in the construction sector.
Additional Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with JCT contracts; knowledge of other contract forms beneficial.
- Claims experience advantageous.
- Familiarity with insurance‑related issues beneficial.
- LPC post‑qualification / qualified solicitor.
