Overview
You will be responsible for leading and developing Multimatic’s Electronics Hardware Engineering team and delivering the electronics for our active & adaptive suspension, active aero and powered closures solutions.
You will be part of a highly capable team split between Cambridge (UK) and Toronto (Canada) and will be overseeing all stages of electronics product development from concept through to end of life.
This is a technical role; you will be a key driver in our high-level technology decisions and product roadmaps but will be expected to contribute and oversee architectures, requirements, and detailed designs as well.
We need someone who is experienced in electronic hardware design, with a good grounding in embedded systems. The ideal candidate will have previously designed products for manufacture, ideally in an automotive environment, working to deadlines and communicating well.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and challenge the electronics hardware design and production team.
- Collaborate with product owner, program manager, and stakeholders to define project milestones, requirements, and estimate task efforts for our hardware development.
- Engineering responsibility for our manufacturing partners: Lead DFM and cost optimisation activities.
- Lead the architectural development of our electronic systems.
- Monitor progress of our hardware projects to ensure timely delivery of development milestones.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying areas for improvement, including tools and techniques.
- Develop and ensure compliance with MES’s hardware design, test and manufacturing processes.
- Suggest and contribute to the development of R&D concepts.
- Requirements capture, interpretation and generation of design specifications.
- Ownership of designs, devising solutions and solving problems as they arise.
- Develop complete ECU designs, including schematics and layouts.
- Collaborate on circuit design, schematics, layout, analysis, and documentation.
- Validation of designs against requirements.
- Integration and validation at system level.
- Preparation of technical documentation and reports.
- Generate and supervise the creation of appropriate documentation of the design to allow long-term support of the product.
- At times the role may require the management of external hardware resource used to supplement our internal engineers.
- Willing and capable of travelling between MES facilities, suppliers, and customers.
- Expected amount of travel is small, usually not more than 2-3 trips a year outside of the UK.
Required Skills and Experience
- Highly experienced in ECU architecture and detailed hardware design within a regulated industry with a more recent career in a technical leadership role.
- Bachelor’s degree or above in electronics engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Highly experienced with analogue and digital circuitry.
- Design of electronics for low and high-power brushed and brushless motors and solenoids.
- Ability to work in a team with other engineering and science disciplines.
- Excellent communication and customer liaison skills.
- Design commissioning and debugging.
- Taking a design from architecture through to production.
- Design for qualification; EMC, environmental.
- Experienced in document creation including specifications, design descriptions, design & test reports.
- Experience in hardware reliability analysis, FMEA.
- Experience in conducting root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Architectural development of electronic control systems in the automotive domain to ASIL‑B level or above.
- Experience in Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) working environment, or similar.
- Experience with MCUs, Infineon Aurix or Arm® Cortex‑M microprocessors preferred.
- Experience with ISO26262 and ISO21434.
- Demonstrate evidence of good organization, planning, cost control, and execution of work.
