POSITION SUMMARY: The Materials Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of the materials warehouse and stores function, ensuring accurate inventory control, timely material availability, and effective use of SAP for all materials transactions. This role owns the physical flow of materials through the business - from goods receipt and storage through to issue to production and dispatch of finished goods. The Materials Manager leads the stores team and drives continuous improvement in warehouse operations, stock accuracy, and SAP data integrity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage all warehouse operations including goods receiving, put-away, storage, picking, and dispatch
- Ensure efficient warehouse layout and material flow across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
- Oversee goods inward inspection coordination and quarantine management
- Manage packaging, labelling, and shipping documentation for customer deliveries
- Coordinate with production to ensure timely material issue and kitting where required
- Maintain safe, clean, and organised warehouse environment (5S standards)
- Maintain inventory accuracy through robust cycle counting programme (target >99%)
- Manage stock levels to balance availability against working capital targets
- Monitor and action slow-moving, excess, and obsolete inventory
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies and transaction errors
- Ensure FIFO principles are applied for material consumption
- Report on inventory KPIs including days of supply, accuracy, and stock value
- Own SAP MM transactions for materials management (goods receipt, goods issue, stock transfers, inventory adjustment)
- Maintain accurate material master data including storage locations, units of measure, and reorder parameters
- Process and manage purchase order receipts against scheduled deliveries
- Ensure accurate and timely transaction posting to maintain real-time stock visibility
- Train and support warehouse team on correct SAP procedures
- Liaise with Finance on month-end inventory reconciliation and valuation
- Lead, coach, and develop the Stores team (Stores Coordinator, Warehouse Operatives)
- Drive continuous improvement in warehouse efficiency and accuracy
- Support production planning with materials availability information
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 requirements for product identification, traceability, and storage
- Participate in internal audits and customer audits as required
- Report KPIs and improvement actions at monthly operations review
- Adopt and practice Kaizen Principles and Concepts
- Participate in Kaizen and GEAR activities
- Follow all Departmental General Procedures as well as procedures for this position as indicated in the level III Procedure manual.

- Perform other duties as assigned

MANAGERIAL / SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Managing the stores team.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years experience in warehouse or materials management within manufacturing
- Proven experience with ERP/MRP systems, preferably SAP
- Strong understanding of inventory control principles (cycle counting, FIFO, ABC analysis)
- Experience in automotive or similar regulated manufacturing environment
- Hands-on approach with ability to lead a small team
- Good IT skills including Excel for reporting and analysis
- SAP MM module experience
- IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 working knowledge
- Forklift licence (Counterbalance)
- IOSH or similar health & safety qualification
- Lean/5S training or certification
- Experience with bonded warehouse or customs procedures
