  • Summary

We are seeking a Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer to join our growing engineering team to develop a range of ISO 26262 compliant automotive electronics products.

You will be part of a highly capable team split between Cambridge (UK) and Toronto (Canada) and will have the opportunity to be involved in all stages of product development from concept through to end of life.

We need someone who is experienced in electronic hardware design, with a good grounding in embedded systems.

Someone who has previously designed products for manufacture, ideally in an automotive environment, and someone used to working to deadlines and communicating well.

  • Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Support architectural development of electronic systems.
  • Requirements capture for electronics hardware.
  • Detailed schematic capture.
  • Design analysis using appropriate methods; SPICE simulations, derating analysis, DFMEAs, WCCA etc.
  • Creation of PCB layout guidelines.
  • Commissioning, verification and validation testing of the hardware including environmental and EMC testing.
  • Appropriate documentation of the designs observing internal, industry and customer standards and processes.
  • Collaborate with and support our manufacturing divisions and external CEM partners through cost down exercises and DFMs.
  • Ownership of designs, devising solutions and solving problems as they arise.
  • Identify areas for improvement including tools, techniques and processes.

Preferred not to mandate - 5-10 years experience in automotive or similar regulated industry

Experience - Highly Desirable

  • Architectural development of electronic systems.

β€’ Circuit design including

  • H-bridge solenoid, motor and inductive load interfaces.
  • High and low-side MOSFET switches.
  • Current sensing and measurement.
  • Common op-amp circuits (amplifiers, filters, etc.), comparators.
  • Microcontrollers with integrated peripheral functions.
  • External-world analog and digital interfaces.
  • Communications interfaces: SPI, I2C, CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
  • Power supplies: linear and switched-mode.
  • Design, commissioning and debugging.
  • PCB design, layout and routing using third-party layout resources.
  • Analog circuit simulation for analysis and performance prediction.
  • Document creation including specifications, design descriptions, design & test reports.
  • Working in a high-quality environment using industry-standard processes both in cross-functional teams and stand-alone.

Experience - Desirable

  • Design for automotive environments.
  • Design of safety-related hardware and functionally safe hardware development.
  • PCB design layout & routing using PCB tools.
  • Design for reliability; derating of components.
  • Reliability analysis, FMEA.
  • Taking a design from architecture through to production.
  • Design for manufacture.
  • Design for test.
  • Design for qualification; EMC, environmental.
  • Product qualification; EMC and environmental testing.
  • Writing simple hardware test software.
  • First degree or higher qualification in electronics engineering or a closely related discipline.

β€’ Previous Engineering Tools & Lab Experience

  • Schematic capture.
  • PCB layout viewers, ODB++ & gerber viewers.
  • SPICE circuit simulators.
  • Use of common lab bench equipment; scopes, signal generators, DMMs, etc.
  • Soldering of through-hole and SMT components.
