Isle Of Mull Full-Time On-site
M

Are you an experienced transport professional who enjoys leading people and keeping services running safely and reliably? We are looking for a practical, hands-on Operations Manager to lead our day-to-day bus, tour and private hire operations on the Isle of Mull.

This is a varied role in which you will coordinate service delivery, support and motivate colleagues, manage operations and help maintain high standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will work closely with drivers, engineering colleagues, support teams to keep our services moving and service the needs of the communities we serve across the island.

What you will do

  • Lead the safe, reliable and compliant delivery of local bus services.
  • Coordinate staffing and respond to absence, lateness, road closures, breakdowns and other operational issues.
  • Coordinate private hire and tour operations, including customer liaison, operational planning, and the allocation of suitable drivers and vehicles to ensure bookings are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with customer requirements.
  • Support, motivate and manage drivers, cleaners and shunters, including recruitment, induction, attendance and performance matters.
  • Monitor drivers’ hours, working time, Driver CPC and other operational requirements.
  • Work closely with Engineering on vehicle availability, inspections, repairs, MOTs and defect reporting.
  • Investigate accidents and complaints, review CCTV and GreenRoad information, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain effective health and safety arrangements, including risk assessments, incident reporting and appropriate control measures.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and drive PCV vehicles when required to support service delivery.

About you

You will be a calm and confident people manager with strong operational judgement and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-moving environment. You will communicate clearly, organise competing priorities effectively and take a proactive approach to safety, compliance and customer service. Previous experience in bus, coach, transport or another safety-critical operational setting is essential. A full PCV licence is required, as the role will include driving duties when necessary.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to take responsibility for an important island operation and make a visible difference to colleagues, customers and local communities. You will join a supportive wider team while having the autonomy to lead services locally and respond to the particular operational needs of Mull.

If you are an approachable leader who takes pride in delivering safe, dependable services, we would love to hear from you.

Safety is at the heart of what we do. As a safety-critical business, all roles play a part in keeping our people and passengers safe, and offers of employment are subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

West Coast Motors is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals.
