As an Assistant Group Tax & Compliance Manager you will be responsible for managing our global corporate tax compliance and assisting with group tax reporting as well as supporting our Head of Group Tax with VAT and customs compliance and management of tax risk. Hybrid working applies to this role - 3 days per week from the office, maximum 2 days per week from home.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Corporate Tax Compliance and Reporting: Manage the UK corporate tax compliance timetable and process, to include payments on account, preparation of tax packs, working with our external advisers on the annual CT return process and responding to audit queries. Optimise available tax reliefs such as capital allowances, research and development tax credits and tax loss optimisation. Manage overseas advisers to ensure delivery of the Group’s international CT returns for our review. Work with the wider finance team to provide estimates of tax cashflow for budgets and forecasts. Support with half year and full year group tax provisioning and reporting. Management of HMRC correspondence & audit where applicable.
- Transfer Pricing: Interpret the OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and Tax Administrations & apply to the Mulberry group of companies. Prepare and maintain transfer pricing Masterfile and local files by territory, plus any other country specific transfer pricing documentation. Support with the review of benchmarked target returns, transfer pricing adjustments and inter-company product pricing.
- Governance: Contribute to the development of Tax policies, processes, and systems with particular attention to HMRC’s Guidelines for Compliance. As required ensure compliance with Senior Accounting Officer and Corporate Criminal Offences legislation. Develop & maintain appropriate tax risk prevention procedures. Support the wider business with environmental reporting & compliance for example EU Deforestation Regulations and Plastic Packaging Tax.
- Other: Support the Head of Group Tax with strategic business projects. Manage withholding tax claims for royalties and interest. Support our group customs and compliance team with customs duty & import VAT data and analysis.

- Tax Expertise – strong knowledge of direct and indirect taxation, supported by a recognised tax qualification.
- Regulatory Understanding – in-depth knowledge of UK tax legislation & guidance, including corporate tax, VAT, PAYE, customs and HMRC Guidelines for Compliance.
- A proactive approach to problem solving, communicating with colleagues and self-development.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, especially when conveying financial information to non-finance audiences.
