Muirshiel Centre is seeking a practical, reliable Handyperson to support our Home Maintenance Service for adults aged 60+ across Inverclyde. The role involves general DIY, small repairs, basic gardening, and painting/decorating, delivered in a friendly, person-centred way. You will work in people’s homes, helping them to live safely and comfortably, while ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard and in line with Health & Safety requirements.

Hours: 21 hours per week • 3 days over Monday–Thursday • £13.32 per hour

Applicants must have:

  • Strong practical skills
  • Good communication
  • A clean driving licence (D1 preferred)
  • Willingness to join the PVG Scheme

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Carry out minor household repairs, including fixing doors, replacing lightbulbs, assembling furniture and fitting curtain rails.
  • Complete painting and decorating tasks to maintain safe, comfortable home environments.
  • Undertake basic joinery within competence and safety limits.
  • Provide general garden maintenance such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, and general tidying.
  • Contribute to ensuring that the centre is maintained to a high level of cleanliness including engagement in cleaning duties as and when required.
  • Keep accurate records of visits, tasks completed, and materials used.
  • Participate in training and skills development as required to support service development and ensure a flexible, responsive service.
  • Report any risks, concerns or safeguarding issues promptly to the Coordinator/Manager.
  • Use tools, equipment and vehicles safely and ensure they are maintained appropriately and complete vehicle checks, as required.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and be familiar with and adhere to all Health and Safety, Lone Working and organisational policies.
  • Communicate clearly with customers about tasks, limitations and safety considerations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold organisational values at all times.
  • Work respectfully within customers' homes, ensuring areas are left clean, tidy and safe after tasks are completed.
  • Undertake any other duties deemed appropriate by Service Manager or Management Committee.
  • Maintain a satisfactory PVG Membership and hold and maintain a clean driving license.
