OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION: The Operational Risk Department is part of the firm’s Risk Management function and provides second line Operational Risk oversight for the firm’s front office and support/control functions.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: The role requires the applicant to provide assistance to the Operational Risk Management team to:
- Act as a 2nd Line of Defence in the maintenance, development and implementation of the Operational Risk Management Framework and System (IBM OpenPages).
- Perform review and challenge of the Operational Risk Management data and identify/perform deep dives as required.
- Facilitate scenario analysis for risk management and capital purposes (ICAAP).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The role requires the applicant within the Operational Risk Management team to:
- Assist in the development and implementation of the operational risk framework across EMEA.
- Provide a robust second Line of Defence challenge to ensure the wider effective identification and management of operational risk and control weaknesses by the business, support functions and the EMEA offices.
- Provide independent broad assessment and monitoring of MUFG’s Operational Risk profile, through review of underlying operational risk data and reports.
- Define and implement key AI components within IBM OpenPages and progress data enhancements to facilitate improved reporting and analysis.
- Provide operational risk subject matter expertise, monitor and communicate the operational risk environment to management, and other key stakeholders.
- Build and maintain close and continuous relationships with key individuals within the business and support functions and ensure their knowledge of the Operational Risk Framework and system are managed.
- Challenge the business and support functions to provide evidence that they are identifying, assessing, managing and reporting their operational risk appropriately.
- Facilitate Operational Risk Scenarios for Risk Management and capital calculation including preparation and review of ICAAP.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Essential:
- Experience of implementing operational risk management frameworks.
- Experience of IBM OpenPages/COGNOS or similar OpRisk System.
- Operational Risk Management experience as a 2nd line of defence providing analytical review and independent challenge.
- Experience of Operational Risk Scenario coordination.
- Experience of drafting and reviewing ICAAP for Operational Risk.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Functional / Technical Competencies: Essential:
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills – Excel (data manipulation), PowerPoint.
- Experience of effective Operational Risk Management Framework.
- Good knowledge of banking products and front-to-back processes.
Preferred:
- Some experience/knowledge of banking regulation.

PERFORMANCE AND DUTIES: The role holder will be assessed in accordance with their employing entity’s performance framework and process with relevant input obtained from the dual hatting entity as relevant. As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and emended in consultation with the role holder. The role holder will carry out other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role as requested by their line manager or Department Head.

The role holder will be required to perform their duties and responsibilities on an entity neutral basis, without favour. The role holder is required to follow regulatory requirements applicable to ensure each business is appropriately supported and to maintain the legal entity integrity of each of MUFG Bank and MUS.
