OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION
BSD (Business Strategy Development) team work within the front office, supporting the management and execution of business objectives. Working closely with heads of businesses and support partners across multiple functions to facilitate the growth of the business.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Business Manager to join our Sales and Trading team in London. This role involves supporting trading operations, ensuring smooth execution of business strategies, managing key stakeholder relationships, and enhancing process efficiency. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of financial markets, expertise in credit and equities products preferred, and the ability to balance strategic and operational priorities in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Strategy & Development:
- Part of the business management team, implementing strategies with business heads. help provide management information to help business heads assess trading performance and growth opportunities. Assist in creating presentations to drive strategy and change. Identify areas for process improvement and operational efficiency on the trading desk.
Operations & Process Management:
- Manage and streamline day-to-day operations, coordinating where efficiencies in processes can be found for sales and trading.
- Collaborate with the Risk, Compliance, and Operations teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies and drive efficiency.
Risk management:
- Support the business in managing risks within the Firm’s risk appetite. Assist in escalating issues, including those related to risk management, regulatory compliance, and operational risks.
Stakeholder Management:
- Act as a liaison between trading desks, leadership, and other departments as part of the wider business management team (e.g., Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Technology).
- Provide business insights/production of material to senior management regarding trading performance, market conditions, and risks.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting:
- Analyse and communicate trading desk profitability, and performance metrics.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation for the business
Project Management:
- Lead and/or contribute to cross-functional Initiatives and projects, aimed at improving trading platform functionality, risk management tools, and market offerings.
- Drive the implementation of new systems or upgrades related to trading and market analytics.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial services, with at least 3 years in a business management role in Sales and Trading.
- Good understanding of sales and trading, products and the trading environment.
- Proven experience in managing and analysing data, with a strong knowledge of financial markets and trading operations.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Functional / Technical Competencies:
Essential
- Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modelling, reporting, and business analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with senior stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other financial tools and platforms.
- Knowledge of risk management and regulatory compliance in the trading environment.
Education / Qualifications:
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree – 2:1 or higher in business/finance related or analytical degree or equivalent work experience
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Familiarity with trade lifecycle and applications (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Power BI platforms).
- Experience with process automation and optimization tools.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
