Vice President, Global Data Privacy Programme Manager - London

Reports to the Global Data Privacy Officer and is responsible for shaping and delivering MUFG’s global data privacy programme across both Bank and Securities entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of global privacy strategies and coordinate regional programme delivery to ensure consistent adherence to local and international regulations.
  • Oversee the deployment and standardisation of data protection policies and procedures designed to safeguard sensitive information across all MUFG entities.
  • Facilitate secure handling of personal data, financial records and proprietary information by collaborating with teams throughout the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain frameworks for personal data management, including registers, breach reporting protocols, data transfers, vendor risk assessments, privacy assessments, legal developments tracking, advisory services, monitoring activities, risk reporting and escalation processes.
  • Monitor potential breaches and consult on responses to regulatory inquiries to protect MUFG’s reputation and client interests.
  • Advise senior leadership on emerging privacy risks and regulatory trends while developing and delivering comprehensive global privacy training programmes.
  • Support management of privacy budgets, resource allocation decisions and vendor relationships to optimise programme effectiveness.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews for privacy controls related to the Global Data Privacy framework, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Respond proactively to audit requests and internal testing reviews, managing issues effectively and ensuring timely remediation.
  • Analyse privacy programme metrics periodically and prepare detailed reports for senior compliance leadership while facilitating liaison among global data privacy colleagues.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and regulatory frameworks gained through extensive experience in compliance or legal roles within financial services or regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional privacy programmes with proven expertise in risk assessment, regulatory interpretation, compliance reporting and project coordination.
  • Practical understanding of privacy‑enhancing technologies coupled with strong analytical skills enabling anticipation of evolving business needs and adjustment of priorities.
  • Collaborative approach that considers stakeholder input when making strategic decisions about compliance solutions while maintaining a customer‑service orientation.
  • Experience supporting or conducting compliance or employee‑related investigations within matrix reporting organisations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, plus a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or similar certification.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with attention to detail and disciplined record‑keeping habits.
  • Structured approach to tasks with sound judgement applied in complex or sensitive matters, escalating appropriately when required.
  • Ability to manage large workloads under tight deadlines while maintaining calmness in pressurised environments.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning demonstrated by cultivating innovation within the team.
