MUFG is seeking a Payment Operations Specialist to join their EMEA Operations team in London, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of complex transactions for corporate clients. What you’ll do:
- Oversee daily control cross-checks and quality assurance of outsourced payment functions, ensuring all department checklists are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Conduct SoX reviews and Risk and Control Self‑Assessment evaluations of key processes, maintaining comprehensive documentation to support compliance requirements.
- Regularly review and report on operational risk systems, including tracking open issues and escalating concerns promptly to management.
- Respond efficiently to client requests and queries via instant message chats and team mailboxes, ensuring excellent service levels are consistently maintained.
- Supervise department workflow to guarantee timely transaction processing, escalating any issues or delays to the Deputy Team Lead as needed.
- Provide final approval on departmental checklists and act as the initial escalation point for processing incidents, errors, or near miss volume increases.
- Analyse offshore KPI/KRI data including near miss templates, updating department MI records to inform management decisions.
- Offer subject matter expertise to offshore teams by explaining stakeholder expectations from Front Office, Product teams, and other key areas.
- Build effective relationships throughout MUFG to establish peer networks that facilitate inter‑departmental collaboration and information sharing.
- Lead process improvements by providing input on key issues, regularly updating procedures, supporting training initiatives, and deputising for Deputy Team Leads at meetings.
What you bring:
- Significant back office banking experience spanning at least five years with proven exposure to payment operations within large financial institutions.
- Demonstrable supervisory experience of at least three years organising teams effectively to achieve departmental goals through supportive leadership.
- Working knowledge of TARGET2/EURO1/STEP2/CHAPS/SWIFT clearing functions with practical experience handling multi‑currency payments.
- Experience operating under time pressure in fast‑moving environments while retaining exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with ISO20022 message formats such as PACS, PAIN, CAMT; ability to analyse functional changes related to Target2/EURO1/RT1 cycles.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel with strong numerical skills supporting accurate reporting and analysis.
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) enabling clear direction for team members alongside sound judgement when resolving queries.
- Ability to generate new ideas for process improvement documented clearly for further consideration by management.
- A calm approach under pressure with strong analytical skills supporting problem resolution across large workloads or tight deadlines.
- Educated to at least GCSE Grade C level or equivalent in Maths & English.
