Role Summary
The Finance Technology Project Lead will serve as a technology delivery partner for the Finance division within MUFG Bank EMEA, MUFG Securities, Mitsubishi Bank Europe divisions.
The role leads strategy, design, and execution of major accounting and financial reporting technology initiatives, ensuring successful implementation, robust controls, and alignment with global and local requirements.
Approx. 20 direct reports; manages onshore and offshore teams across multiple projects within the Finance portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Strategy and Delivery
- Define, plan, and execute technology projects related to GL, AP/AR, FA, Financial Control, Tax, Financial Planning, Purchasing & Procurement, ESG and regulatory reporting obligations (e. g., COREP, FINREP, NSFR).
- Collaborate with Finance stakeholders and IT leadership to define and maintain the Accounting Technology roadmap, prioritizing initiatives based on business value, risk reduction, and regulatory deadlines.
- Apply structured project management methodologies (Agile/Scrum or Waterfall) to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and meeting specified functional and non‑functional requirements.
- Stakeholder and Relationship Management
- Act as the dedicated interface between the Finance Department (CFO, Financial Control, Tax, Treasury) and core IT delivery teams.
- Translate complex financial requirements into clear technical specifications.
- Build and maintain working relationships with decision‑makers and oversee third‑party vendor relationships.
- Technical Leadership and Architecture
- Guide the architecture and design of new or enhanced accounting solutions, ensuring scalability, stability, and control integrity (SOX compliance awareness).
- Focus on the quality and lineage of financial data flows from trade capture systems through to the General Ledger and reporting layers.
- Lead documentation of Technical Designs, operational readiness plans, test strategies, security questionnaires, etc.
- Risk and Compliance
- Ensure all accounting technology solutions adhere to internal risk frameworks, operational security policies, and external financial regulations (So X, Basel3, PRA/FSCS).
- Maintain security and data privacy controls, embedding these in key design decisions.
- Lead technology remediation efforts identified by internal audit or compliance functions.
- Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 8years of experience in IT project delivery, 4years focused on Finance or Accounting Technology within an investment bank or major financial services institution.
- Practical understanding of how P&L and Balance Sheet are produced and month‑end close processes.
- Deep functional and technical knowledge of core accounting systems – GL (Oracle, SAP, Workday, OFSAA, Aptitude, Financial Accounting Hub).
- Proven track record of leading complex, cross‑functional technical delivery projects with significant investment budgets in a regulated environment.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, demonstrated experience working within a global organisation and engaging with senior leadership.
- Deep understanding of system integration patterns, data warehousing, reporting concepts, SDLC tooling, and cloud‑based financial platforms (OCI, Azure).
- Professional certification (e. g., PMP, Prince2, Agile Scrum Master) is highly desirable.
Desirable Qualifications
- Accounting experience, including knowledge of IFRS9, IFRS17, IFRS, UKGAAP, J‑GAAP.
- Experience with banking accounting products such as OFSAA, Aptitude, Financial Accounting Hub solutions.
- Knowledge of ESG and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Experience with ETL solutions (Informatica) and middleware (IBM MQ, Web Sphere, BPEL, SOA).
