Position Overview: Financial Crimes Compliance Quality Assurance Programme Head – London, Global Financial Crimes Division of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG). This role shapes and drives the global FCC QA methodology, ensuring consistency and excellence across multiple regions and disciplines including Anti‑Bribery and Corruption (ABC), Anti‑Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC) and Sanctions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead one of the core GFCD QA programme departments, developing methodologies that set the benchmark for quality assurance across multiple disciplines.
  • Collaborate with regional teams worldwide to oversee the implementation of global standards.
  • Prepare governance materials for senior management meetings, provide expert advice on complex compliance matters, and deliver training.
  • Monitor progress against objectives, escalate risks when necessary, and contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen internal controls.
  • Oversee the delivery of the FCC QA programme remit within agreed timelines and standards, ensuring high‑quality, complete and accurate outputs aligned with global expectations.
  • Develop, maintain and secure approval for global minimum standards for FCC QA and related appendices to the Global FCC QA Methodology.
  • Communicate effectively with regional QA teams and global stakeholders to ensure seamless implementation of approved methodologies.
  • Maintain comprehensive training materials and records related to FCC QA methodologies, delivering guidance sessions to ensure understanding across teams.
  • Prepare detailed summaries, reports, governance papers, and management information for key meetings and review records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide timely updates on risks, issues, programme developments, and raise material concerns to senior leadership as appropriate.
  • Execute oversight activities according to annual plans while responding flexibly to ad‑hoc requests from governance forums or leadership.
  • Contribute actively to regional working groups, offering constructive challenge and subject‑matter expertise to enhance overall programme effectiveness.
  • Support capability development by mentoring junior colleagues and fostering a collaborative team culture that upholds high standards of conduct and performance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the QA operating model by strengthening internal controls and enhancing efficiency through shared best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in financial services compliance roles within large international organisations, especially those focused on driving change or enhancing critical programmes through evaluation or transformation initiatives.
  • Proven record leading teams or projects directly involved with FCC QA functions or controls oversight within banking or financial crime environments.
  • Advanced understanding of quality assurance concepts such as sampling strategies, stratification methods, testing approaches (including MI reporting), monitoring techniques, sources of assurance and governance structures (accountability/decision‑making).
  • Thorough knowledge of effective financial crimes risk management frameworks—including practical application of AML/KYC/Sanctions regulations—and ability to interpret evolving industry trends or best practices.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel/Word/365 applications for data analysis/reporting, with strong written and oral communication skills suitable for preparing governance materials or delivering training sessions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to communicate complex ideas clearly when preparing governance materials or delivering training sessions, and demonstrate empathy when collaborating with colleagues across different cultures or time zones.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to shifting priorities/deadlines without losing sight of long‑term objectives and a passion for continuous learning, staying abreast of industry trends and best practices.
  • Experience interacting with senior leaders or subject‑matter experts in financial crime programmes, providing technical advice/guidance on complex issues while building positive relationships quickly.
  • Preferred: Prior experience designing, evaluating, testing or auditing financial crime compliance controls; interfacing with banking regulators/enforcement staff; holding relevant certifications such as CQP MCQI/CIA/CMIIA/ICA Diploma in AML/CAMS.
  • Degree in finance, accounting, business or equivalent work experience.
