Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is seeking a Head of Financial Risk, Director to join their London team. In this pivotal role you will shape and strengthen the finance risk culture across MUFG, supporting robust governance and regulatory excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across EMEA and global teams to manage operational risk and ensure effective risk oversight.
  • Maintain and refresh the Finance Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) to ensure compliance with internal frameworks and external regulations.
  • Deliver risk‑management training sessions to Finance staff, embedding best practices and promoting a strong risk‑aware culture.
  • Review completed non‑SOX control testing, providing constructive feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Conduct deep‑dive reviews of internal or external events and processes, identify root causes and recommend actionable solutions to enhance resilience.
  • Produce accurate management information (MI) on risk and control matters, using modern technologies such as AI to highlight quality issues requiring remediation.
  • Support regular risk assessments in line with framework requirements, ensuring findings are documented and escalated appropriately.
  • Contribute to the Finance Risk Appetite Framework (RAF) and Horizon Scanning forum by analysing risk‑tool data for committee presentations.
  • Challenge risk and control owners constructively to ensure evidence-driven issue closure and accountability across all levels of the Finance function.
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert on risk‑management tools within Finance, extracting reports and performing detailed data analysis to detect non‑compliance or inefficiencies.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance by staying up‑to‑date with changes in laws, rules, policies, and internal frameworks relevant to MUFG’s operations.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience working within an Operational Risk Management framework in a banking environment, preferably covering finance functions and broader support teams.
  • Ability to interpret complex risk and control data sets, producing insightful reports for senior decision‑making.
  • Strong report‑writing skills with experience compiling materials for risk forums or committee packs within regulated institutions.
  • Hands‑on experience conducting control testing activities, both SOX‑related and non‑SOX, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Understanding of what constitutes a positive risk culture in large organisations and ability to promote these values through daily interactions.
  • Advanced analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with AI‑driven data‑analysis tools is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly and build trust among diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Calm approach under pressure and exceptional attention to detail, maintaining high standards during busy periods.
  • Relevant academic qualifications and, where possible, additional certifications in risk management.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple locations or business units, with a willingness to share knowledge openly.
