OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION
Within GCIB (Global Corporate & Investment Banking), ESFO (European Structured Finance Office) offers comprehensive advisory and debt arrangement for the non-recourse and limited recourse financing of long-term, capital intensive projects. Our specialist teams focus on a range of sectors, including power & renewables, infrastructure, natural resources and housing finance.
Within ESFO:
- the Financial Advisory team (“GCIB Financial Advisory ”) spans all sectors and aims to structure the most competitive and deliverable funding solution for our client base, evaluating all available funding sources in the market. These funding sources include commercial or multilateral banks, ECAs, institutional investors, private placements or public bond finance or a combination thereof. The team also provides credit ratings advisory services.
- The Energy and Infrastructure teams have responsibility for the delivery and execution of the financing product in their respective sectors.
The JCIB (Japanese Corporate Investment Banking) Financial Advisory team will operate alongside the existing GCIB Financial Advisory team, with the same geographical and sector remit, delivering the advisory product specifically to projects where clients covered by JCIB have a controlling interest.
On projects jointly participated by clients covered by JCIB and GCIB, JCIB Financial Advisory and GCIB Financial Advisory teams will share responsibility.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Providing modelling support to enable the development, execution and management of the project finance across all sectors within ESFO.
Support the Director and Vice President within JCIB Financial Advisory in the execution of advisory mandates.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Bank
- Design and build intermediate/complex models in respect of project/structured finance transactions with specific focus on clients covered by the Japanese Corporate Banking Division for EMEA.
- Respond to day-to-day queries raised by client/other banks in respect of the financial model and attend client meetings.
- Review models prepared by clients and other financial institutions, applying appropriate stress tests in conjunction with the originating deal team.
- Develop and train juniors within the team.
- Work with colleagues in the credit function to co-ordinate the production of cash flow analysis papers to inform investment decisions.
- Liaise with clients at a counterpart level to relay specific information and respond to routine queries ensuring a high level of customer service.
- Build relationships throughout MUFG to establish a peer network, gather relevant information and help to ensure effective inter-departmental collaboration.
- Produce RORA calculations and swap line calculations at various stages of the transaction cycle.
- Develop a practical understanding of all core systems and procedures within ESFO and how they link into standard systems in order to respond to enquiries.
- Support the team in preparation of information memoranda and presentation material for clients.
- Support the team in the authorisation activities, including assisting in the presentation of the transaction through the various internal approval processes.
- The role may require international travel.
Securities
Through collaboration with MUS employees, facilitate the marketing and origination of transactions with your area of specialism in respect to the MUS product suite. The non-functional nature of this role means that you will not be able to transact (which means lead any structuring, credit, execution or commitment discussions) on behalf of any MUS legal entity; though through your role in Project Finance you will be able to share data and information, attend both internal and external meetings, offering up views and opinions. All recommendations and final decisions around structure, credit, pricing, execution and commitment must be made by a MUS employee or a functional dual-hat employee.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2-5 years of project finance model building experience.
- Previous experience of financial modelling in a big four firm, sponsor, bank or similar financial institution.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Functional / Technical Competencies:
- Strong financial modelling experience and excel skills
- Able to build Project Finance models from scratch
- Good experience of managing project finance model build and launch process and experience of managing the various stakeholders with respect to the model
- Good grasp of financial accounting combined with a level of business awareness and a strong understanding of the kind of factors that can drive the financial performance of a project financing.
- Sound IT knowledge and skills.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to build credible relationships at all levels.
- Accurate with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work on own and prioritise without direction
Education / Qualifications:
- Degree level educated or equivalent
- Accountancy Qualifications desirable
- Finance Qualifications desirable
- Engineering Qualifications desirable
Language Skills:
- Fluency in Japanese
