Job Summary
Debt Capital Markets Lawyer – EMEA Legal Department, London. 2‑4 years post‑qualification, junior lawyer in an in‑house role supporting MUFG’s Capital Markets Group.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal advice, review, draft and negotiate documentation for debt capital market transactions across multiple product lines.
- Support structuring and establishment of new products and innovative business initiatives within the Capital Markets Group.
- Engage directly with clients during negotiations, explaining complex products to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Offer strategic legal counsel on regulatory matters, reputational considerations and documentation issues related to capital market activities.
- Deliver training sessions on legal and regulatory developments to employees across the firm.
- Participate actively in working groups and committees within MUFG to contribute expertise to broader organisational projects.
- Efficiently manage relationships with external law firms while ensuring prudent control over legal spend.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc, identifying potential conflicts and escalating appropriately.
- Maintain strict adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements while supporting both business arms.
Qualifications
- University degree in law with 2‑4 years post‑qualification experience at a major law firm or significant financial institution.
- Robust technical understanding of debt capital markets transactions and commercial awareness of current market trends and regulatory changes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for building stakeholder relationships across diverse teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities to explain intricate legal concepts to non‑specialist audiences.
- Proven experience operating successfully within team‑oriented or matrix environments across varying seniority levels.
- Proactive enthusiasm for driving positive change and accountability for results.
- International outlook with pragmatic problem‑solving skills for commercial settings.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, balancing independence with sensitivity to team goals and deadlines.
- Curiosity about new developments in capital markets law and sound commercial judgement.
