The Platform Engineer will be based on a hybrid basis out of our stunning city centre office in Leeds, so you will need to be within a commutable distance to allow you to be in the office several times a month with colleagues.
You’ll provide full lifecycle assistance to the development, testing and production teams, working within the DevOps team to be a hands-on subject matter expert for the application stack, including MS Azure, MS Server OS, MS SQL Server, PowerShell, IIS and Linux.
The Platform Engineer will work to deliver an automated approach to both hardware and software delivery, adopting the appropriate tooling and governance to create repeatable, resilient and controlled deployments, supporting the day-to-day management and control of all environments, from development infrastructure and applications through to production, ensuring they are aligned and the best possible service is available to support business processes, including the provision of out of hours on call.

What you need:
As with any role, we want to find the right person and we want to make sure you know it’s the right role for you too. You will need:
- Demonstrable ability to build, monitor and support some, if not all of Windows Server, Cloud Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft IIS install and management
- Experience as an infrastructure, operations or technical expert operating in the space between development and operations
- Strong technical knowledge in Enterprise System Design, Virtualisation, Capacity, Resilience, Monitoring, Network and Performance Management
- Previous experience in cloud management, code and test, scaling, automation, source control, deployment and back-up
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- The ability to plan your work to meet tight, ever-changing deadlines
Day to Day, you will:
- Provide operational support and continuous improvement of the application and infrastructure estate and processes for Development, Test and Production environments
- Ensure automation, process efficiency and appropriate tooling is utilised to reduce cycle times, improve reliability, audit and traceability for all system deployments across multiple applications
- Ensure process, best practice, system and application build standards are consistently applied and improved upon
- Set up and configure software version release management, cloud provisioning and monitoring within cloud and hosted environments
- Ensure that whilst working with DevOps, the Development Team have the right environment to maximise their efficacy and obstacles are removed and automation introduced where appropriate
- Work to ensure production environments are protected by governance, good practice, good process, design and ‘fit for purpose’ environments, to the left of Pre-Prod, supporting all project and change activity
- Ensure project and change release/s are packaged to the right quality, repeatable between environments without change or modification and deployed to the target environments, ultimately to production without detriment or issue with agreed timescales
- Design and implement virtualised and cloud-based architectures, leverage agile development techniques for scripting and setting up developers so that they can ‘run what they build’
- Deploy and configure applications and systems, ensuring all releases are documented and packaged appropriately
