Overview of the Department/Section
Corporate Banking Department (London) is a front office function responsible for coverage of Japanese Corporate Subsidiary Banking clients, predominantly in the UK. This includes the full scope of client relationships including:
- Achieving commercial targets
- Originating product solutions and providing services to clients, through collaboration with Product and other MUFG branches
- Developing and executing client account strategies
- Proactively supporting client needs and growing the client portfolio
- Effectively managing the credit approval process including writing credit papers
- Driving an effective risk and control framework
- Supporting the delivery of business goals for other MUFG branches and divisions
Main Purpose of the Role
The Relationship Manager has lead responsibility for a portfolio of Japanese Corporate Subsidiary Banking clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Taking a proactive approach to managing all aspects of a diverse client portfolio.
- Working closely with more senior Relationship Managers and other colleagues to support wider business development and other activities.
- Writing credit papers and effectively managing the credit process for new and existing business.
- Supporting clients’ operational requirements and ensuring risk and compliance for all activities.
Client coverage and portfolio management
- Responsible for effectively managing a client portfolio to meet commercial and risk goals.
- Responsible for collaborating with Product Partners to effectively identify solutions that meet client needs.
- Responsible for partnering with Credit and Compliance stakeholders to meet internal requirements.
- Responsible for assisting senior Relationship Manager with origination and strategic business development activities.
- Responsible for regularly sharing information and ideas with other MUFG international branches.
- Responsible for developing a strong understanding of MUFG’s credit policy and operational procedures.
- Responsible for undertaking ongoing training and development to build skills and knowledge.
Risk Management
- Responsible for monitoring and taking actions to manage and enhance risks across the business.
- Responsible for managing all relevant risks (including, but not limited to, market, credit, operational and conduct risks) within the firm’s risk appetite.
- Responsible for conducting business in line with internal policies and procedures as well as regulatory requirements and ensuring that Global Governance Standards are met.
- Responsible for managing credit assessment flows including credit applications, borrower ratings and other reports with high quality analysis and in line with required deadlines.
Controls and Compliance
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with internal risk and policy requirements, controls and procedures, maintaining systems commensurate with the business and in line with regulatory requirements.
Relationship with other functions and stakeholders
- Responsibility for maintaining and enhancing good working relationships with stakeholders, across the region and globally, to share best practices, provide support and develop effective local policies and procedures appropriate to the Company, and working to support a One MUFG approach and overall Group strategy.
Work Experience
Essential:
- Relevant work experience including: Front Office Corporate Banking Coverage, Product, and related middle office functions.
- Relevant work experience in managing credit analysis activities for diverse corporates.
- Experience of building effective relationships with stakeholders in different countries and cultures.
