Role Overview

We are looking for a Data Engineer with strong hands-on Snowflake experience to help build and maintain our Snowflake data warehouse.

Working within our established medallion (bronze / silver / gold) architecture, you'll build and maintain automated pipelines using Streams, Tasks, and Dynamic Tables, and help produce well-modelled, BI-ready data sets.

This is a hands‑on engineering role with genuine scope to grow into a more senior architecture, governance, or team‑lead position as our platform matures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain data pipelines and models within our Snowflake data warehouse, working within an established medallion (bronze / silver / gold) architecture.
  • Develop and support automated, event‑driven data pipelines using Snowflake Streams and Tasks.
  • Build and maintain Dynamic Tables to simplify and automate transformation logic.
  • Support the development of dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas, fact and dimension tables) to underpin analytics and BI use cases.
  • Work with BI teams and business stakeholders to build data models that support dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Follow, and help improve, data governance practices, including data quality checks, access control, and metadata management.
  • Contribute to automation of the data platform, including pipeline testing, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Monitor Snowflake performance and cost, flagging optimisation opportunities such as warehouse sizing, clustering, and query tuning.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, software engineers, and product teams to translate requirements into working data solutions.
  • Contribute to the growing use of Snowflake features such as Semantic Views, under guidance, as our platform and governance practices mature.
  • Minimum 2 years' hands‑on experience with Snowflake, including SQL development and day‑to‑day warehouse use.
  • Experience working within, or contributing to, a medallion (bronze / silver / gold) architecture.
  • Practical experience with Snowflake Streams and Tasks.
  • Experience with Dynamic Tables, or a strong appetite to pick these up quickly.
  • Working knowledge of dimensional modelling concepts (star schemas, fact/dimension tables).
  • Experience integrating Snowflake with at least one BI tool (e. g. Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
  • Some experience automating data pipelines or workflows (e. g. dbt, Airflow, Python, CI/CD).
  • Understanding of core data warehousing and ETL/ELT concepts.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills & Experience (Growth Areas)

  • Exposure to data governance practices or tooling (e. g. lineage tracking, data cataloguing, role‑based access control).
  • Interest in, or exposure to, Snowflake Semantic Views.
  • Familiarity with additional Snowflake features such as Time Travel, Zero‑Copy Cloning, or Snowpark.
  • Experience with dbt for transformation and testing.
  • Snow Pro Core certification (or working towards).
  • Appetite to grow into a more senior architecture, governance, or team‑lead role over time.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Core Competencies
  • Detail‑oriented, with a focus on building robust, well‑modelled data pipelines.
  • Proactive about automation and reducing manual effort.
  • Good collaborator across engineering, analytics, and business functions.
  • Eager to develop technically and grow with the platform.
  • Technical Environment
  • Bupa Health & Dental Care for you and your immediate family
  • 26 days’ annual leave plus national bank holidays
