About MUBI

MUBI is a global streaming service, production company and film distributor dedicated to elevating great cinema. To make this possible, we create, curate, acquire and champion visionary films, bringing them to audiences all over the world. We have a team of brilliant, dedicated and passionate people to help bring our mission to life. From London to New York, Istanbul to Paris, and Berlin to Mexico - we work together to realize MUBI’s vision.

About the Role

Our library of great cinema is growing fast, and we need a Subtitling Coordinator to help us keep up with the volume. This role is about getting stuck into the technical side of subtitling to make sure our films are accessible to everyone, everywhere.

We’re looking for someone genuinely tech-savvy who doesn't just do the work, but figures out how to do it better. If you’re the type of person who naturally finds shortcuts or finds a faster way to conform files, you’ll fit right in. You’ll be a vital part of a small team, helping us get more films onto the platform quicker and making sure great stories reach the people waiting to watch them.

We work hybrid-remote where we require 3 office days in London. Our core days are Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, with the flexibility to use our offices on the remaining two days if you wish.

Where you’ll have impact:

  • Acquiring, retiming, converting, and conforming subtitles and SDH from external sources in a number of formats and languages.
  • Creating and QC-ing subtitles and templates for translation using subtitling software, following company style guides.
  • Investigating subtitle streaming reports and taking action - whether that’s fixing issues yourself, delegating, or reporting back to relevant teams.
  • Performing final tech checks on in-house created subtitles.
  • Participating in broadening our accessibility coverage (i.e., SDH) across a wide range of content.
  • Supporting in developing company standards and documentation.
  • Assisting the Subtitling Operations Director with a variety of subtitling-adjacent tasks.

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrable experience using advanced tools (such as Subtitle Edit, EZTitles, Ooona) with subtitles and captions across VOD, theatrical, or broadcast.
  • A strong grasp of subtitling industry standards and the implementation of accessibility requirements in the VOD sector.
  • An excellent standard of written English. Proficiency in a second language and an interest in linguistics is a big plus!
  • A genuine passion for film and a good level of film knowledge.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines while maintaining a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your own workload.
  • Creative problem-solving; you don't shy away from challenging technical issues.
  • A proactive, "can-do" attitude and a willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
  • The ability to work independently and report on your results regularly.
  • You are organised, punctual, and patient.

If you feel you’ve got what it takes but don’t meet every single requirement listed above, we’d still love to see your application! We want to make cinema accessible to everyone. We believe people from different backgrounds bring different ideas that foster innovation and engagement, allowing us to attract great people to develop the best experience for our users.
