Hours: Monday to Thursday, 6:45am–4:30pm, 37 hours per week

We are recruiting for an experienced Skilled Machinist / CNC Setter Operator to join an established engineering business within the aerospace manufacturing sector. This position would suit an experienced CNC Machinist or CNC Engineer who is confident setting and operating machinery, reading engineering drawings and using precision measuring equipment. The successful candidate must be willing to develop their skills further and learn centreless grinding as part of their role.

The Role

The role will predominantly involve second-operation machining rather than conventional CNC lathe work. You will operate a range of CNC and manual machinery including grinders, drilling equipment, thread-rolling machinery, part markers, depitching presses, torque testers and deburring equipment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Setting and operating CNC and manual machines
  • Carrying out second-operation machining
  • Learning and operating centreless grinding machinery
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • Using micrometres accurately to check components to tight tolerances
  • Carrying out first-off and production-run inspections
  • Working with materials including aluminium, stainless steel and Inconel
  • Completing machine maintenance and production documentation
  • Reducing scrap and rework while maintaining productivity
  • Ensuring components are manufactured in line with strict quality standards

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a CNC Machinist, CNC Setter Operator, CNC Engineer or Skilled Machinist
  • Experience setting and operating CNC machinery
  • Confident working with manual machining equipment
  • Able to read engineering drawings
  • Proficient using a micrometre
  • Comfortable working to very tight tolerances
  • Previous aerospace or precision engineering experience is highly desirable
  • Experience working with aluminium, stainless steel or Inconel
  • Grinding experience would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Willingness to learn centreless grinding
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality components
