We are recruiting for a Junior Sheet Metal Fabrication Operator to join a busy aerospace manufacturing team in Bishop’s Stortford. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in engineering and manufacturing who is reliable, practical and keen to develop their sheet metal fabrication skills.

The Role

You will assist with the manufacture of sheet metal components used within assemblies and welded assemblies. Working from engineering drawings, templates and production instructions, you will help ensure components are produced accurately, safely and within the required schedule.

Duties will include:

  • Setting and operating fabrication machinery, including guillotines, bandsaws and presses
  • Measuring, marking out and producing detailed sheet metal components
  • Using scribes, dividers, squares, rules and other workshop equipment
  • Reading and following engineering drawings and templates
  • Using engineering measuring equipment to check component dimensions
  • Producing work in accordance with AS9100 or equivalent quality standards
  • Participating in daily production meetings
  • Supporting workplace organisation and continuous improvement projects
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment
  • Following all health and safety, quality and regulatory procedures

The Candidate

The successful candidate should have:

  • An interest in sheet metal fabrication, engineering or manufacturing
  • Some previous manufacturing experience, ideally within aerospace or automotive production
  • Previous experience using fabrication machinery would be beneficial
  • The ability to understand engineering drawings or a willingness to learn
  • Good attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team
  • A reliable and safety-conscious approach to work

Previous aerospace experience is desirable but not essential, as this is a junior-level opportunity.
