Position: HGV Driver / Drainage Engineer
Location: Stanley House, Anthonys Way, Medway City Estate, Rochester, Kent, ME2 4NF
Line Reporting Manager: Depot Manager
Working Hours: 5/7 Contract, Monday - Friday, 06:00am - 16:00pm, Basic 50 hour week. Weekend and Night work available in overtime.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities:
- Being flexible in your approach to work and undertake ad-hoc duties when your vehicle is off the road or if you are required to assist other field teams.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Drive and operate HGV Skip vehicle once training has been provided (Class 2, CPC required).
- Attend emergency call out situations dealing with sewer blockages, flooding and pollution.
- Working on Private and public land in strict accordance with statutory health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Undertake vehicle checks at the start and finish of each shift.
- Ensure that all jobs are documented correctly.
- Report all defects, accidents and near misses immediately to Line Manager.
- Maintain the drivers log book in compliance with MOT rules and procedures.
- Ensure that the conditions of all PPE (personal protective clothing and equipment) remain fit for purpose.
- Keep the vehicle and equipment washed down on a weekly basis, free from rubbish in hose and tool boxes and the cab.
- Attend training as and when required.
Health & Safety:
Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) states the general duties of employees at work. It shall be the duty of every employee while at work to:

- Co-operate with their employer or any other person to enable that duty or requirement to be performed or complied with.
Drainage Engineer (Combi) Health and Safety Responsibilities:
- Understand and comply with the company health and safety policy.
- Influence and promote a positive health, safety culture within the organisation and lead by example.
- Ensure all works activities are carried out in a safe manner and in accordance with legislative, company requirements and the RAMS.
- Carry out comprehensively and complete all company required site documentation.
- Ensure VPRs are carried out and completed.
- DRAs are to be carried out for every job and updated where required.
- Report all health, safety and environmental incidents to the Line Manager within 2 hours of it happening.
Qualifications / Competency:
- Class 1 and 2 Driving license and CPC.
- Must have the ability to take on responsibility of working within very controlled guidelines and environmental regulations.
- Able to deal with the public in a polite and friendly manner.
- Able to work with a minimum of supervision and to receive instructions remotely.
- Previous work involving liquid waste products in the water utility / environmental services sector is desirable. Knowledge of safe working in street works preferred.
