Our client are specialists in their industry sector, they are now looking to recruit a CNC Estimator on a permanent basis.

This is a full-time, on-site CNC Estimator role based in a busy manufacturing site in Newcastle. The CNC Estimator will review engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models to prepare accurate cost estimates for CNC turning, CNC milling, and wire EDM projects. This role involves selecting appropriate materials and processes, calculating machining times, tooling requirements, and subcontract costs, and preparing detailed quotations for customers. The CNC Estimator will liaise closely with engineering, production, and sales teams to confirm technical feasibility, optimize manufacturing methods, and ensure estimates align with capacity and lead times.

Day-to-day tasks include maintaining estimating databases and pricing models, supporting responses to RFQs and tenders, tracking quote status and win/loss data, and contributing to continuous improvement in estimating accuracy and efficiency.

About you

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a CNC Estimator role supporting multiple sectors including Oil & Gas, Defence, Flow Technologies etc.
  • Strong experience interpreting engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications for machined components.
  • Hands-on understanding of CNC machining processes, including CNC turning, CNC milling, and, ideally, wire EDM.
  • Proven ability to develop accurate time, material, and tooling estimates for precision-engineered parts.
  • Familiarity with machining materials (e.g., steels, stainless steels, alloys, exotic materials) and associated cutting data.
  • Comfort using ERP/MRP or estimating software and standard office tools (e.g., Excel) for cost modelling and quotation preparation.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy under time constraints.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with production, engineering, and commercial teams and to engage with customers when needed.
  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or a related discipline; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of working to ISO 9001 and other quality, health.
