Our client, a leading manufacturer based in Houghton Le Spring, is now recruiting for an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor.
The Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor will provide both leadership and hands-on support for all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs at the manufacturing facility. Working closely with the Plant Manager and the central EHS function, this is a key role in ensuring the site operates safely, sustainably and in full compliance with UK legislation.
You will be instrumental in:
- Developing an autonomous safety culture
- Maintaining ISO management systems
- Driving continuous improvement through employee engagement and operational excellence
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring compliance with all UK environmental, health, and safety legislation
- Developing, implementing and maintaining ISO systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001)
- Leading initiatives that build a proactive and autonomous EHS culture
- Promoting and managing Health and Wellness programs to support employee wellbeing
- Defining and maintaining EHS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Delivering EHS training and coaching to managers, supervisors and employees
- Leading risk identification, assessment and mitigation programs across site operations
- Conducting inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations to verify compliance and program effectiveness
- Managing environmental aspects including air, waste and water compliance, ensuring adherence to UK environmental regulations
- Driving continuous improvement within the site's EHS Management System and ensuring robust reporting and follow-up on corrective actions
- Becoming a technical expert on the site process technologies
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a degree in Environmental Management, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- Have 5 or more years experience in a manufacturing environment with a proven track record of success in reducing occupational injuries
- Possess working knowledge and expertise in Environmental regulations and maintaining compliance with pertinent regulations
- Have a strong EHS background and experience in UK regulations and reporting
- Demonstrate the ability to identify change, communicate the need for change, and monitor integration for success
- Exhibit demonstrated abilities as an effective leader/trainer/coach
- Show the ability to communicate both horizontally and vertically
- Be computer literate with knowledge of web applications
- Have industrial process understanding and knowledge
