MTrec Technical are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a leading precision engineering and manufacturing organisation, seeking an Engineering Project Manager (Design Engineering) to join their talented engineering team in the heart of Northumberland. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to lead and develop a team delivering advanced engineering solutions. The role involves managing projects from prototype through to series production, acting as the principal technical interface with customers, and working closely with commercial, manufacturing, and supplier partners to ensure customer requirements, quality standards, and business objectives are met within a cutting-edge, collaborative engineering environment.

The Job you will do:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a small team of professional engineers to develop designs from prototype through pre-production and into series production, ensuring supporting documentation such as models, drawings, cost estimates, and schedules are in place to meet customer and business objectives.
  • Act as the principal point of contact with customers during the design phase, ensuring all requirements are fully understood, communicated, and incorporated into product and project delivery.
  • Work closely with the Commercial function to support customer expectations, including involvement in customer visits and exhibitions.
  • Provide technical input and problem-solving support to internal departments and suppliers as required.
  • Ensure all design processes are followed in line with the company management system and quality standards.
  • Manage and update the Engineering bi-weekly report for review by senior engineering management.
  • Manage the Engineering Department timesheet system, summarising monthly data, identifying trends, and reporting findings to engineering management.

About you:

  • A Mechanical Engineering Degree is essential
  • Membership if the IMechE would be advantageous.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3 to 5 years of Engineering Management experience
  • A strong background in Project Management would be advantageous
  • Demonstratable ability of managing project budgets and supporting other engineers in their project budgets
  • Experience of managing a small team of professional engineers (approx. 5 engineers and apprentices)
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility.
  • Must be adaptable and could learn new techniques, processes, etc.
  • Must be capable of guiding Junior and Senior engineers in their activities.
