MTrec's new career opportunity. Our leading industry-based client is looking to appoint a Buyer to join their small procurement department, initially on a 6 month temporary basis with a view to possibly going permanent.

Salary is competitive and working hours are 37.5 hours per week with an 8am or 8.30am start depending on preference. They offer early finishes on a Friday of 2pm. This is an on-site based role and can be based at either their Rowlands Gill or Hexham site.

The Role

  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process from requisition through to purchase order placement and supplier delivery.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities across multiple sites to ensure continuity of supply and optimal inventory levels.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers to support quality, cost and service objectives.
  • Obtain quotations, evaluate supplier proposals and make purchasing recommendations based on commercial and operational requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including delivery, quality and service metrics, and escalate issues where necessary.
  • Support supplier negotiations relating to pricing, lead times, payment terms and service agreements.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving and value-improvement opportunities across procurement categories.
  • Analyse purchasing trends, supplier spend and procurement data to support business decision-making.
  • Work closely with Operations, Finance, Sales and Warehouse teams to forecast demand and manage inventory requirements.
  • Support the onboarding, approval and ongoing review of suppliers in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve supplier, delivery, invoice and stock-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure procurement records, contracts and supplier documentation are maintained accurately and compliantly.
  • Assist with procurement projects, process improvements and system enhancements.
  • Produce procurement reports, KPI data and management information as required.
  • Support supply chain risk management activities and identify opportunities to improve supplier resilience.
  • Provide support to the wider procurement and supply chain team as required.

The Person/Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience within a procurement, purchasing, buying or supply chain role.
  • Experience of supplier relationship management and procurement coordination.
  • Experience analysing purchasing data and producing procurement reports.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and supply chain principles.
  • Experience using ERP, MRP or procurement management systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyse and interpret data.
  • Experience supporting supplier negotiations and cost-reduction initiatives is desirable.
  • CIPS qualification or working towards CIPS would be advantageous.
