The Job you’ll do:
We are looking for a technically driven and commercially aware Technical Proposal Engineer to join our Product Solutions team. In this role, you will support our Bid Leaders in developing competitive technical and commercial proposals for our customers. You will translate customer specifications into practical engineering solutions, perform technical evaluations and calculations, and help ensure that every proposed solution is compliant, cost-effective, and fit for purpose. You will work closely with Bid Leaders, Costing, Engineering, Purchasing, Project Management, and key suppliers across multiple customer accounts. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine your engineering knowledge with the commercial side of our business and develop your career towards either a technical specialist or future bid leadership role.
As a Technical Proposal Engineer, you play an important role in turning customer requirements into technically sound and competitive solutions. You review specifications, engineering drawings, and technical documentation, perform calculations and evaluations, and work with Bid Leaders and Engineering to determine the most suitable solution during the proposal stage. You bring together technical input from different disciplines, suppliers, and internal stakeholders and support the preparation of technical proposals, compliance documentation, clarifications, and cost estimates. You will also engage with customers and suppliers on technical matters, helping to identify deviations, resolve questions, and ensure that proposed equipment meets the intended application and operating requirements. Once an order is awarded, you help ensure a smooth handover to the project team by transferring the relevant technical requirements, calculations, and bid clarifications. Throughout your work, you look for opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and the way we develop technical solutions.
About You:
- HNC/HND/FdEng in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline; a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable.
- Experience in engineering, applications engineering, manufacturing, proposal support, or a related technical role.
- Experience working within a technical, manufacturing, or project-driven environment would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing practices, and fabrication methods.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in developing technical-commercial proposals.
- Strong organisational and communication skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; basic knowledge of Autodesk tools is desirable.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
- A proactive mindset and willingness to further develop both your technical and commercial capabilities.
