MTrec Technical are proudly representing our prestigious engineering client in their 2026 recruitment initiative with the recruitment of a permanent Lead Plant Engineer to strengthen their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within a growing engineering business.

If you are an experienced Plant Fitter/Engineer, with experience resolving mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues on heavy plant/industrial equipment.

The job you’ll do

  • A hands-on Lead Engineering role diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy plant equipment.
  • Provide expert technical support to the engineering team and act as the main Technical specialist
  • Training and mentoring younger team members
  • Diagnosing and repairing diesel-based systems
  • Attending escalated issues at customer sites as required (on average once per week, primarily at sites in the North East)

About you

  • Experience working with a wide range of heavy plant equipment/machinery.
  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant engineering discipline (plant maintenance, land-based engineering etc.)
  • Knowledge in mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and repairing diesel-based systems
  • Knowledge of fabrication is desirable
  • Strong diagnostic skillset across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work independently and make confident technical decisions
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in being part of a winning team.
