Our client are specialists in their industry sector, they are looking to recruit a Bid Lead on a permanent basis.

  • The Job you’ll do
  • We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Bid Leader to join our Product Solutions team.
  • In this role, you take ownership of assigned opportunities from qualification through proposal submission and negotiation.
  • You bring together technical, commercial, and customer requirements to develop competitive solutions that create value for both and our customers.
  • Reporting to the Business Unit Director Product Solutions, you work closely with the Sales Director, Engineering, Costing, Project Management, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, and other key stakeholders.

You will also provide day-to-day direction to the Engineers supporting your bids.

  • This is a key role for someone who combines a strong technical foundation with commercial judgement and enjoys working at the centre of complex customer opportunities.
  • As a Bid Leader, you take the lead in turning customer opportunities into strong and competitive technical-commercial proposals.

You assess customer requirements, define the bid strategy, identify key risks and opportunities, and coordinate the people and expertise needed to deliver a high-quality proposal.

  • You work closely with engineering and commercial teams to develop technical solutions that meet customer expectations while remaining commercially sound and aligned with objectives.
  • Throughout the bid process, you maintain oversight of scope, pricing assumptions, contractual requirements, risks, and proposal quality.
  • As the primary customer contact during the bid phase, you lead technical and commercial discussions, manage clarifications, and support negotiations to achieve balanced and mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Internally, you bring teams together, provide direction, and ensure that decisions and priorities are clear.
  • Beyond individual bids, you contribute to improving the way we work by sharing knowledge, developing best practices, and supporting the growth of Application Engineers and future technical-commercial talent.

About You

  • HNC/HND/Fd Eng in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline; a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is desirable.
  • Experience in bid management, applications engineering, proposal engineering, technical sales, or a comparable technical-commercial role.
  • Experience leading or coordinating complex technical-commercial proposals;
  • Strong experience working directly with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience reviewing customer specifications, commercial requirements, and contractual terms and conditions.
  • Strong technical understanding and the ability to review, develop, and challenge engineering solutions.
  • Commercial judgement with the ability to identify risk and develop balanced solutions.
  • Strong customer relationship management and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Effective technical-commercial communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, engineering drawings, and customer specifications.
  • Good understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing practices, and fabrication methods.
