A member of the MTI Machinery Build Team who is responsible for the build of sub-assembly units. This position is then responsible for the integration of these units onto the overall machine build of Friction Welding Machinery, which also includes the installation and upgrades on-site at customers' locations – both within the UK and worldwide.
We are searching for a skilled and creative minded team member to fit and assemble complex machine unit assemblies such as spindles, clamps, automation, lubrication, pneumatics, hydraulics, and other mechanical sub‑assemblies. You will fit and assemble these units within the general assembly of the friction welding machine using assembly drawings and schematics, ensuring each unit and machine is built "on time", "on spec", and "on budget".
Participate in meetings held prior to the project build phase on the release of each unit from the design phase to review designs, voice concerns, and identify materials required for the mechanical build sequence.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Fitting / assembly of various unit assemblies using assembly drawings.
- Read detailed hydraulic, lubrication & pneumatic schematics.
- Install hydraulic, lubrication & pneumatic systems.
- Integrate vendor automation, conveyors, robots and guarding.
- Communicate any problems with parts to build & engineering department.
- Onsite installation / upgrades / breakdowns of machinery at customers' premises UK & worldwide.
- Communicate with customers in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
- Inspect parts from a drawing using various inspection equipment.
- Operate machine shop equipment such as milling, lathe, surface grinder, etc.
- Continuously review and improve engineering processes.
- Contribute to MTI’s Upfront Planning initiative.
- Help develop strategies and processes to ensure on‑time delivery of equipment, cost reduction opportunities and performance improvements.
- Promote cultural values and behavior in others (respectful, purposeful, integrity, collaborative, adaptable, positive attitude, excellence, effective communication).
- Occasionally support MTI’s subcontract department with machine breakdowns, machine operations and pre / post machining.
- Perform other assignments, as requested by supervisor or manager.
