A major international financial institution is executing a multi-year architecture modernisation of its global post-trade, back-office, and control platforms. The mission is to re-architect legacy middle-and-back-office engines into highly scalable, distributed functional architectures that guarantee absolute compliance with global regulatory standards (EMIR Refit, MiFID II, SFTR). You will provide architectural leadership and hands-on functional engineering to modernise critical post-trade systems including settlements, confirmations, trade lifecycle processing, and risk controls.

Location: London / Bromley

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect Distributed Systems: Own and execute the Scala-based target architecture for high-volume trade lifecycle processing, matching, and exception workflows.
  • Lead Regulatory Compliance Engineering: Drive system compliance and auditability across key regulatory change streams (EMIR, MiFID II, SFTR, CFTC).
  • Establish Engineering Standards: Set technical strategy and governance across functional programming practices, streaming tech, cloud readiness, and observability.

Required Skills

  • Domain & Architecture: Deep background designing back-office or post-trade distributed platforms in capital markets.
  • Tech Stack: Expert-level Scala and functional programming; advanced experience with event-driven streaming (Kafka) and microservices.
  • Domain Operations: Detailed mechanics of trade life-cycles, settlements, confirmations, reconciliations, and regulatory control frameworks.
  • Containerisation and Cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to workflow engines (Camunda/Activiti) and cross-language polyglot environments (Java, Kotlin, Python).
